Wednesday report:

-- Oregon State transfer WR Richard Mullaney made a night one-handed catch across the middle.

-- The two receivers groups have been swapping sides of the field after each drill. It would appear that would give the QBs more work with the full assortment of receivers. In the past, each of the two lines would remain on one side of the field.

-- Right tackle Dominick Jackson continued to look fine after hurting his shoulder in the scrimmage Saturday. Brandon Greene remains his backup with Bradley Bozeman working at right guard on the second team behind Alphonse Taylor....

Good news on the injury front.
Essentially no news on QB competition.

Thursday:

QBs being watched, but no hints of who will be the starter.

--Kenyan Drake was back working with the receivers during Thursday's practice. Drake should be utilized all over the field this year for Alabama.

-- While working on catching skills, defensive back Maurice Smith had a very nice one-handed catch. Later, Cedric Powell caught a nice one-handed, over the shoulder pass from Nick Saban.

--Receiver Parker Barrineau was still in a non-contact black jersey. He suffered a toe injury that required surgery and is still in the process of getting back to fully practicing.

Alabama practice report: Notes on QBs, Bo Scarbrough and Bradley Sylve
The Tide practiced Tuesday afternoon

Running back Bo Scarbrough hopped on his injured right leg during one drill, another indication of how rapidly Scarbrough is recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the spring.

—Cornerback Bradley Sylve practiced, days after — according to a source — breaking his hand and undergoing surgery to repair the damage. Sylve had a large cast on that covered his right hand/wrist area.

— Right tackle Dominick Jackson was also back practicing after suffering a strained shoulder during the Tide's scrimmage Saturday....

I'm still worried about him. Can he still make a sharp cut, stop then accelerate quickly, twist & dodge, etc?
Has anyone seen him in practice doing these things? Thanks.

 Huh?

The only thing keeping Scarbrough out of the game is his suspension. If you didn't see the brace/wrap on his knee you would never know he had been injured. He shows no sign of injury when doing his agility drills and they are very demanding. He wears that black jersey just to keep him well until he can play. Wink

Thanks. I appreciate yours & 2's observations about Scarbrough. Plus, I forgot about the suspension so he has extra time to heal.

This team has the opportunity to be very special, particularly on defense. This is probably the deepest team we've had, maybe ever. The young guys like Minkah, Hump and Ronnie Harrison on defense, and Bo (when he can play), Damien Harris, Charlot and Ridley on offense, all have tremendous talent and add to an already talented team, regardless of what string the player is.

My biggest concern is protecting the football, and minimizing the blown assignments on D. If the team does a good job of doing both of these things, the sky is the limit. Even with the extremely tough schedule, Bama will be very hard to beat.

Still no hint of the starters.  But that should change TODAY!

I thought Eddie Jackson was a corner?  Did he move to safety?

For all the hand-wringing about QB, with all the injuries, and with all the off-field incidents, I still thinking this is going to be the deepest, most physical Bama team we've seen since 2012.

Tough schedule this year, but I think we're in store for a great season. Can't wait to see the team in action next week!

Yes he has been moved to safety. He has potential as a corner but he seems to get beat on a regular basis and was a weak link last year. He is getting high praise from the staff on his move to safety and is expected to start. I think he will do great in pass coverage at safety which is much easier than corner. I question does he have the size, tackling skills and nose for the football in run support.
