TUSCALOOSA - When redshirt freshman quarterback Phillip Sims is at the controls, Alabama's offense is in spectacular hands.

"He's one of the best players in the game," senior wide receiver Marquis Maze said.

So there you have it. Sims has the edge on redshirt sophomore AJ McCarron for the starting position this fall. Right?

Not quite. Maze was talking about video games.

"Phillip is one of the best players on NCAA College Football 2012," Maze said. "I guess being a quarterback, he knows how to read certain things."

He will beat your a** at NCAA 2012.

He looks really good in that picture.  I guess he has been pretty busy working out this summer.  It looks like he has slimmed up some around the waist.

You're absolutely right, SC.  Sims has gone from 240 to 208 in his year and a half in T-Town.

The spare tire never really bothered me much, but losing it speaks well of his concerted effort.

Well if he is tops on games then I think McCarron is tops on the field. RTR!

I feel the same.  I don't think the weight would've affected his performance.  He's not a speed demon...he's a serviceable scrambler for a pocket passer.  That's what he wants to be, and that's what we want him to be.  But the will power and effort it took to lose is an encouraging sign.
