For those of you that haven't had the chance to hear Phil speak, do so if you have the chance. This man is like someone that covers the recruiting wars in college football but his knowledge base goes much further than that with his knowledge of the Pros.

He first gave us a rundown of his Senior Bowl week and how exhausting it was. I never realized the difficulty that is involved with filling the rosters for the teams as players would commit to playing and then decommit. Some of this was happening up to two days before the game was played.

He did mention that the coach down at the other school in the state was upset because his quarterback wasn't chosen as a quarterback for the team, we all thought that was pretty funny. Even when he was chosen to play as a QB, he came to camp and went to his first practice, took off his QB jersey and told everyone that he was now a DB and that didn't change afterwards. Actually he made a big impression with his size and performance.

Blake Sims has been chosen to participate in the upcomimg professional combines, Phil doesn't think he will get drafted but can make a scout team and have a chance to work his way up.

He talked some on Trent Richardson and it wasn't the news that I wanted to hear. Trent evidently has some major distractions in his life as do all professional athletes that has a pocket full of money. Phil thinks he has to make some major decisions in getting his life back in order to continue his pro career.

He is very excited for spring practice to start to watch the battles at QB and WR. There is no one favorite of his at either position at this time.

In the Super Bowl this Sunday he picked Seattle and figured his old friend and Coach Belichick wouldn't like that very much.

I almost forgot the one thing he was very excited about, the two new additions to the coaching staff. Phil says it will be huge as to what Lupoi and Tucker will bring to the team, better recruiting on the West coast and and an experienced DB coach.

It was a fun evening for everyone and we were promised that Lane Kiffen would be our next speaker, really looking forward to that.

Hate hearing that about Trent. Hope that doesn't mean drugs, liquor, and/or hookers.

E-cred for the great report, J. Great stuff and thanks for sharing. Kiffin speaking ought to be a real hoot. Sad indeed, to hear about Trent.

I would love the chance to hear either Mr. Savage or CLK to speak. My chances of this are nil and zero probably. I certainly appreciate you keeping us up on the occasions and the fervor with what they speak. Thanks again. RTR!

Thanks for the write-up Mr J.  Great hearing about these meetings.

Sad to hear about Trent's troubles.  Sounds he needs to have a long talk with Rolando about how to fix his messes.

There was one other thing that I failed to mention that Phil was very concerned about. He stated that Jameis Winston had gone on record saying that he would not take the Wonderlic test at the combines. he said in a very firm voice that no player comes before the NFL and tells them what they are or are not going to do. I sensed that there may be some problems ahead for Winston with the NFL and Phil seemed to hope there would be for him.

I'm surprised Winston even knows what the Wonderlic is. My guess is that he knows he will do very poorly on the test. This reminds me of Jamarcus Russell. If I remember correctly, Russell had one of the lowest Wonderlic results of any pro player. We all know how he ended up.

Interesting Jamos.

Vince Young had a notoriously low Wonderlic score with a 6, but lower still?  Morris Claiborne scored a 4, the lowest ever.  Maybe Winston's agent knows he will fall into this camp.

Here are the ten lowest Wonderlic scores.  Click here for link

See also:   Click here for link

Lowest scores of NFL players:

Quote
Terry Bradshaw, former Pittsburgh Steelers QB: 16

Dan Marino, former Miami Dolphins QB: 15

Hakeem Nicks, Indianapolis Colts WR: 11

Jeff George, former journeyman QB: 10

CJ Spiller, Buffalo Bills RB: 10

Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland Raiders K: 9

Carlos Hyde, San Francisco 49ers RB: 9

Tavon Austin, St. Louis Rams WR/RB/KR: 7

Terrelle Pryor, Seattle Seahawks QB: 7

Vince Young, former Titans QB: 6

*There’s still debate over whether the 6 was actually Young’s score, or just an urban legend. Either way, the first result was so bad that Young decided to take the test a second time, scoring a 16.

Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers RB: 6

*Gore is dyslexic, which explains both his low score AND how someone who scored a 6 could become a top NFL running back.

NFL RECORD: Morris Claiborne, Dallas Cowboys CB: 4

*Claiborne has a reading-related learning disability, and there have also been claims that he “blew the test off” because he didn’t think it was relevant to football. Still…four out of 50? Claiborne is tied for the #1 spot with former Iowa State RB Darren Davis, who never played a down of NFL football.

Yeah, my mistake. It was Vince Young I was thinking of.
