I am a very offensive minded coach, but something has to be done about these teams running these run/pass option plays.  First there are linemen down field.  Second, recs are blocking and then come back to the ball creating space by pushing off.  Third, I don't know how many times I have seen the outside rec go an block the corner and the inside rec run an out route easily picking up yardage.  Just had to get this off my chest.

I thought the refs had tightened up on the linemen being downfield.  Guess I haven't been playing close enough attention.

I totally agree, coach. The thing I hate the most about the NFL seems to be filtering down to the college level now: rules to favor offense over defense. While it is not as blatant in the college game, it is still apparent to me that it is all about scoring now instead of balance on both sides of the ball. These "protection" rules they have in the NFL now have taken so much away from the game by allowing teams to score 50 plus points per game and basically handcuffing defenses. I am all in favor of protecting players, but these rules have carried it too far. I fear that such rules are coming to the NCAA before long.

What can be done from a fans standpoint? Writing the SEC officials or anybody? I am confused why the teams work so hard to have a great defense and then they can't play up to their standards because of the officials. RTR!

I'm afraid all that can be done is the coaches complain enough that the officials have to take a look at it more closely.  I will have to say I have seen more offensive pass interference calls on the goal line this year than any other.  Everyone one runs a pick/rub route on the goal line.  You just have to do it properly.

It may just be me, but don't these things always go on cycles?
I agree about the rules/officials favoring offenses
These days but it seems like only a few years ago
The defenses prevailed.

I have noticed this as well.

It was really obvious with the 3 penalties for 5 in the backfield.

There was another offensive penalty against the boogs that I cannot remember that is relevant to this discussion.

Basically, I think that this is part of malzahn's offense.  I think he gambles on not getting caught more often than getting caught and he plays the percentages.

They got away with a rub route down on the goal line after Tony Brown replaced Eddie Jackson.

This might just be a good topic for Pee Wee to bring up with Coach Saban on the radio show...

It was strange to see AU had no holding penalties, especially with the extended plays, and no chop blocks.
