I just don't understand why the crazies feel the need to  go to schools and arbitrarily open fire on everybody. What is their purpose?

It's where the greatest number of people gather daily.
It also happens in the workplace. 
For years it seemed limited to Post Office facilities.
In Memphis it happens on the streets....

The "crazies" of the world were murdering folks long before firearms were invented.  The problem lies in the mind and heart of man.  The weapon he chooses to carry out his evil deeds is largely inconsequential.  Until evil is eradicated from the Earth, we will have tragedies like this.
