I was one of those that thought Sims couldn't do the job and I was wrong, but I can tell you I was pulling for him when CNS started him. CNS knows a lot more about who should start and who shouldn't, that's why he's the coach and I'm the fan.

This answer by Jamos is probably the best overall answer but Sims still has to prove he can win on the road & even at home against a quality team. He will get his chance against Miss. State, Auburn, & LSU (even thought they are down this year). I really believe we can win all 3 of those teams, especially if the defense keeps improving so much like previous games & the offense does not self-destruct. His running/scrambling can make a difference.

I hope MSU wins out till they play us. Beating the #1 and the other high quality teams would be a plus. RTR!

It is true that no one should have been comfortable with Sims after A-Day. But neither should anyone have been comfortable with Coker. He threw every ball on a rope, and that leads to batted balls. I saw no evidence of touch. Sims stared his receivers down to the point where I thought I might be able to leap out of the stands and get a pick.

The point is that given neither of them looked much good, what was the underlying cause of the tremendous support that Coker received as the heir apparent?
If I am not mistaken then I would say the cause of all the Coker support probably came from comments that Jimbo Fisher made about him when he transferred to Bama.   But I could be wrong...

I totally agree with this ^.  I actually want every team we play from here on to win all their games prior to our game against them.  If that is the case and we win out then there is no way IMO that the committee can justify not putting us in the playoffs.

I think some of them play against each other.   Huh?

Regarding Coker, I think the hype came preseason, from the press and Jimbo's comments.  If we believed what we heard, we would have all thought Coker would win the Heisman this year.

That, and Sim's play during A-Day and last year in mop up duty.

But Saban saw Sims at practice, and knew he was the better option.  I remember those interviews, Saban would mostly answer that there was still a QB competition and he was waiting for someone to step up.

I don't think anyone who is a fan of the game questions Saban's choice now.

My thoughts exactly. I was completely convinced Coker was going to be the starter, that Sims didn't have a chance. I was proven very wrong, and I no one is happier about it than I am. Blake has taken complete command of this offense, and I think he has really benefited being under Kiffin's tutelage as well. BS may never be mentioned with the likes of Stabler, Namath, and McCarron, but for one season at least, he is doing some remarkable things. And who knows? If things swing just right for us for the rest of the season, he could be the next championship QB.

It's very easy to understand why everyone thought Coker was THE ANSWER to our QB problems. It's because we wanted to believe it. He's from Alabama and for some inane reason most of the fans seem to think it's better to have a QB from the state than somewhere else. It's the same mentality that demanded one of "Bear's Boys" be hired as coach in the past. Coker was highly recruited but he made a bad decision and went to FSU. When he got beat out by the future Heisman Trophy winner at the last second (or so the story goes), that enhanced his status. Personally, I still think he can be a solid QB & right now we need a dependable backup.
