If you are good at reading lips, you will see most college coaches using this type of language on TV every weekend.

By the way, keep a close eye on Muschamp this Saturday.  Laughing

By the way, for those who don't know, he was mimicking/quoting a joke that is going around the internet.
Regardless , would you want or condone him doing that in front of your wife, daughter, or grand daughter? He is as a Heisman winner and  candidate supposed to lead by example!

No I definitely would not.  But these are college kids.  They will hear and see a lot worse than that while they are on campus, especially in 2014.  While I don't condone his behaviour, this is trivial compared to some of the other things he has done.

The only reason he is being punished for this one is to satisfy Pat Forde and his ilk.  That's not justice, and it sends the wrong message to all college kids.  Justice has to be blind, and the punishment has to befit the crime.  This suspension is especially egregious considering the lack of punishment he received for his past transgressions.  The message this sends is that public perception is more important than actual justice.

He should have been thrown under the jail for the rape, but instead he wins the Heisman and plays for a national championship.  Now he acts out a "dirty joke" he saw on the internet and that gets him suspended.
For me it started with the squirrels. I like fried squirrels or squirrels and dumplings as much as anyone.  But for him to be shooting other peoples pets that they were feeding just got me.
And then the rape., and him avoiding talking to the authorities like he had something to hide.
And then stealing the crab legs and now this.
It is a combination of all of the above!

Exactly.
In response to SC's take on this ('punishment of JM for his words'), I think this is the culmination of his actions, including the rape, theft, and now vulgarity.  That's why he's sitting the first half.

I'm not satisfied until the rape issue is finalized (investigation complete and whatever actions taken).

I think the Title IX issue that the University is investigating might have more bite to it than the legal investigation by the police department as far as his eligibility to play sports at FSU. Somehow I get the opinion this suspension is no more than a smoke screen for that investigation.

I don't like the guy either.  He should have been punished a long time ago.  I guess my biggest gripe about this is that nothing happened at all for any of those past issues.  But now that football is getting all of the bad press with the stuff going on in the NFL, suddenly Jameis gets suspended for saying something stupid.  This is a lot like the NFL suspending the player for 2 games, then the video comes out and they throw him under the bus.  FSU is throwing him under the bus for this in order to try and avert a PR disaster.

BINGO!!  College kids are known for doing stupid things and acting like 15 year olds. I agree with your assessment of the whole situation. Serious allegations of rape get swept under the rug, stealing from a store is no big thing, but NOW they want to do something? It's a joke, not discipline.

We've heard his apologies too many times before. His words once again ring hollow. After Winston was cited for shoplifting crab legs and crawfish from a Publix grocery store in April, he said in a statement: "I realize that I am in the public spotlight and my conduct needs to be above reproach. ... I must realize that my mistakes are magnified and can bring great embarrassment to all those who support me every day."

Oops, he did it again.

Give Florida State a sliver of credit -- at least FSU administrators did something about his behavior this time. When Winston was accused of sexually assaulting a FSU female student in December 2012, FSU officials and the Tallahassee Police Department did little to investigate the credibility of the allegations. The incident wasn't brought to public light until nearly a year later, and only then was the case referred to the state attorney's office.

Ham sammich, however, what he's done collectively should be enough to kick him off the team.

Haven't read all the posts today, been in trial in Tullahoma, TN.  But I think the punishment wasn't just for the profanity, but for being a public figure in the spotlight who has brought a Title IX violation investigation down on the University (for allegedly sweeping under the rug a rape charge) and then he utters this, of all things.  It doesn't help their Title IX position.

I remember when JW first appeared in the spotlight last year, and all the media folks were fawning over him (similar to Oscar Pistorius at the Olympics), talking about his "great personality" etc.  And they were showing clips of him supposedly encouraging his teammates, only it appeared contrived, and his teammates seemed to be ignoring him.   He appeared to be babbling to himself, or the camera.  Really, he reminded me more of some of the characters I've met at mental institutions than a true leader.

The media profits when it does this, first when the character has success, then when he falls and his true self is revealed.  I wonder sometimes if they pick these types of characters on purpose.

You're 5 minutes late.

Quick, change your pick!

I'm seriously considering it. Doh!, I'm so conflicted!  Tinfoil Hat I don't ever go back and change my picks.

Ask Breddy for advice!

Laughing  I love that photo.

You have to wonder whether, despite the advantage, Clemson still will find a way to blow it.

So due to climate and the cumulative effect of Winston brushfires, Florida State may have felt like it had to do something. But it still stopped short of fully doing the right thing.
I agree that 1/2 suspensions are a joke.  Auburn did the same thing v. Arky.
