By the way, for those who don't know, he was mimicking/quoting a joke that is going around the internet.

SC, I don't think this occurred at practice but "jumped up on a table at the union" in front of students

Regardless , would you want or condone him doing that in front of your wife, daughter, or grand daughter? He is as a Heisman winner and  candidate supposed to lead by example!

Right.  It was in front of other students.  He was trying to be funny.  And I am sure a whole bunch of them laughed hysterically.

I just don't think the guy should be suspended for telling a vulgar joke.  If that is the standard, I'm sure we will need to suspend a good number of our own players.

No I definitely would not.  But these are college kids.  They will hear and see a lot worse than that while they are on campus, especially in 2014.  While I don't condone his behaviour, this is trivial compared to some of the other things he has done.

The only reason he is being punished for this one is to satisfy Pat Forde and his ilk.  That's not justice, and it sends the wrong message to all college kids.  Justice has to be blind, and the punishment has to befit the crime.  This suspension is especially egregious considering the lack of punishment he received for his past transgressions.  The message this sends is that public perception is more important than actual justice.

He should have been thrown under the jail for the rape, but instead he wins the Heisman and plays for a national championship.  Now he acts out a "dirty joke" he saw on the internet and that gets him suspended.

Winston, the Heisman Trophy winner last season, met with the media at midday Wednesday.

"First of all I just want to apologize to the university, to my coaches and to my teammates," he said. "I'm not a me person, but in that situation, that was a selfish act and that's not how you do things around here, so I really just want to apologize to my teammates because I've now made a selfish act for them and that's all.
"You've got to overcome adversity and that's one thing at Florida State we do ... and when I do get my opportunity to play I'm going to do anything I can. That's going to eat me up. I want to be out there on the field, but I did something so I have to accept my consequences and I'm going to apologize to my team. We're not going to think about negative things, we're going to think about moving forward and winning the game.

"I messed up and I have to accept the fact I did that. It eats me alive I did something like that. I can't carry myself that way and me and Sean, we're going to watch film and I'm going to try my best to put our team in a good chance to win this game."

He should have never won the Heisman, but Cam shouldn't have either.  They just need to go ahead and strike the word integrity from the criteria.

For me it started with the squirrels. I like fried squirrels or squirrels and dumplings as much as anyone.  But for him to be shooting other peoples pets that they were feeding just got me.
And then the rape., and him avoiding talking to the authorities like he had something to hide.
And then stealing the crab legs and now this.
It is a combination of all of the above!

I don't like the guy either.  He should have been punished a long time ago.  I guess my biggest gripe about this is that nothing happened at all for any of those past issues.  But now that football is getting all of the bad press with the stuff going on in the NFL, suddenly Jameis gets suspended for saying something stupid.  This is a lot like the NFL suspending the player for 2 games, then the video comes out and they throw him under the bus.  FSU is throwing him under the bus for this in order to try and avert a PR disaster.

Exactly.
In response to SC's take on this ('punishment of JM for his words'), I think this is the culmination of his actions, including the rape, theft, and now vulgarity.  That's why he's sitting the first half.

I'm not satisfied until the rape issue is finalized (investigation complete and whatever actions taken).

IMHO, suspension for a half does not = throwing JW under the bus.  This is minor and like I said earlier potentially puts him in a position to come in at the half and be a hero, i.e. if FSU is behind at the half or if the score is close.

I thought they would at least suspend him until further notice, and let think about it.

Your right.  It doesn't equate to throwing him under the bus.

I just don't get why everyone thinks he should be suspended for this.  He has done plenty of things to get suspended for, but standing on a table in the student union building and acting out an internet joke?  Did ESPN suspend Corso when he dropped the F-bomb on live TV?  No.  Did we suspend Coach Cochran when he said UGA was wearing black because they are going to their own f@#$ing funeral?  No.  If you are good at reading lips, you will see most college coaches using this type of language on TV every weekend.  In fact, Coach Saban has been scolded by his own daughter for such language.

You can't expect Jameis, or any other college kid, to develop a respect for justice when it is so obviously handed out selectively to fit in with when it is convenient.  I suppose I wouldn't have a problem with a half game suspension for this if the prior incidents had been handled correctly.  And on the other hand, if FSU had let this one slide too, then everyone, including me, would be on their case for not doing anything AGAIN.

I guess my main point is you can't punish a guy for running his mouth if you aren't going to punish him for rape, stealing, and all the other things he has done at FSU.  FSU painted themselves into a corner when they chose to let everything else slide.  They were trusting that he would behave himself the rest of the way, and in time, everyone would forget about it.  Big mistake on their part.  He has done pretty much the opposite.  Which is exactly why you can't let a kid think they can get away unpunished.  In his mind, I'm sure he thinks he is untouchable.  So I guess it is good that they finally do something to bring him back down to earth.

But what they should do is suspend him indefinitely until the rape investigation has concluded, and not worry about what he says when he is running his mouth in the student union building.
