I hope preacher and friend keep plenty of gas in the tank and packed some snacks and water.

I caught a glimpse of them on the Memphis news:

Ice storm continued here through the night.  About midnight I heard a tree fall; not sure where exactly, but it didn't hit the house.  Then later I heard the "crack and boom" as pine limbs broke and fell.  It's getting ugly.  At least we still have power.

Back in the early-mid 90s we had an ice storm in North Alabama.  All the limbs and trees breaking sounded like gunfire.  Many were without power for a week or more.   I believe we were without for around 4 days.   The wood burning fireplace never felt so good.  We were stacked up like cord wood in the living room sleeping in front of it to stay warm.

Yes, we had the same ice storm in north Mississippi back about 1993-4.  It started on a Saturday.  Much of Oxford was without power for 2 weeks.  The mayor was without power for 18 days.  Trees were down everywhere.  Just like then, last night I heard that "rifle-shot" sound of limbs snapping, followed by the boom of them hitting the ground.  We have a fireplace too.  So back during the ice storm we went to Ole Miss and invited the grad students and faculty without power to stay with us.  We had 12 guests the first night.  We cooked on the fireplace and many people slept in the den near the fire.  We have videos somewhere of that survival story!

That same storm was the source of Miss University of North Alabama (Florence, AL) to be injured and nearly killed.

Read some of her incredible story here.

I was a deputy sheriff in Lauderdale County, Tn when that one hit in '93. It was the worst ice storm they ever had. I was the only one who could make it to the jail the morning after it hit, and our dispatch center was located in the jail. No one could get in to the Ripley PD for dispatch services either, so I took every emergency call, and dispatched every emergency vehicle for 8 straight hours without taking a breath. That's the busiest I've ever been in my life.

We got power back after 5 days. We had a natural gas heater in the den, and like you HL, we slept in that den. There were places near the Missippi River that went 2-3 months without power.

Lots more stories about that storm for a later time, but for now, you stay safe Chech.

No word from Preacher?

Got a cold rain here in P'cola this morning. Winter is back. We are very lucky though, not to be getting the mess that you had, Chech.

I guess it's time for this........

No word from Preacher.

I can't imagine what's so important in Arkansas that he'd drive through an ice storm, blocked highways, and dangerous people.  Was he searching for SuperCoach??  That was the last thing he discussed.

SC doesn't strike me as the Arky type. Maybe he was heading for the healing waters of Hot Springs?

A dip in some warm waters sounds awfully nice.   Maybe we all need to go bunk with 2 in Key West later this month.

There’s one of those China balloons flying over Mississippi this morning.

Hard to believe that years ago, people took mercury baths there, being told that it was good for them.
