My father was in WWII also. He was in 2 theaters of war; North Africa and Italy. My oldest brother was in Vietnam. Both survived, but were forever changed by their experiences. Many did not survive. They are the ones we commemorate today. We all celebrate our freedom because of those who gave their lives.

Today is a celebration of the War heroes who gave it all for their country. It is not for veterans but for those families who have those empty seats today at their tables. God Bless the families and God Bless America. RTR!

Good Tuesday morning. Our cookout was interrupted by thunderstorms yesterday, much to the chagrin of my grandson, who had to get out of the pool. I told him it was the tears from our fallen soldiers, who were sad because many people didn't realize the importance of what Memorial Day was all about. He looked at me like I was nuts. He's only 6, so........   Wink

We just lost my WWII Vet uncle (90) late last week.  He landed in France and went all the way down through Germany, Austria, etc and was also in the N African theater for a while.  Luckily for him, he didn't land until late 1944 or early 1945 when the German forces had been beaten back some.

My generation and those after me are all wimps compared to those men and women from his generation.  We will likely never know the hard work and sacrifice that they faced almost daily, from the depression, WWII, and life in general without modern conveniences.

Very well said! and lets not forget the sacrifices our kin made at home to support the war effort. My Mom, who is 93 and 3 of my aunts worked at the tin mill and assumed what at the time was a man's job to support the war

Some beautiful words this morning H.L. My compliments. I did a lot of riding yesterday and visited my cousin whose husband had a brother who left here at home in may of 1966 and was never heard from again. He went to Nam and he was not declared legally dead till 1999 so the Government wouldn't have to pay out benefits. Our government is a sad piece of leadership. I had to visit my Aunt because her son died from Agent Orange from being over there. he was in the BIG RED 1 out of FT. Benning, GA. It is beautiful here today though. Hope everybody has a great day back from the Memorial weekend. RTR!
