...

We live in the northeast area of Pensacola, about 1/4 of a mile from Escambia Bay. That area is like a big cliff. We actually are on the highest point in Pensacola. (Probably about 50 ft above sea level  )

We're atop a hill too (420' above sea level).  After we moved from Louisiana, I'd had all of the flooding I wanted.  So we found a lot atop a big hill, and (a la Christopher Columbus) planted our flag on the lot and started building.

Yours looked more like this:

Yeah, but notice the upslope.

The upslope?

NOTICE THE HORSES!

Ironically, it's the most authentic image I could find.  At least it showed a tropical setting.  The others looked like 'Garden of Eden' settings.

I think they ate all of the horses as soon as they were out of sight of Europe.

Actually, CC brought horses on his 2nd voyage.  He also brought (this is a true list) pigs, sheep, goats, cattle, chickens, rats, and syphilis.

Morning Chech and 2. Coffee

As they would say it in Chicago, "it's a might brisk here this morning" and as they say it here in T-town, "it's colder than h*** here this morning".  Wink

Mrs. J and I were part of the Halloween party at the church last night and we had a good time. I took my 4 wheeler and an 8 foot trailer with some hay in it and treated the folks to a hay ride, not the normal hay ride though, this one had some unexpected thrills for them. It was a lot of fun as I were able to find enough bumps, hills, and darkness to entertain them all. I could only take a few at a time and this made it even better as the others could hear those riding squealing and laughing and were anxious to take their turn.

Chech, the picture of the golfer player in the snow brings back some old memories for me as well. I can now look back and see why Mrs. J thought all of us guys were missing a screw when we were out playing golf in that weather. Smiley

Game day just isn't the same when Bama isn't playing but you two are right, there are some big important games being played today which should make for another fun Saturday.

Have a great day everyone and stay warm. Pray Cheesy

Yep, and we have a feral pig explosion due to that. I don't even think that syphillis ever got as widespread as the pig population.

The Spanish did originally settle Pensacola, but after all the hurricanes, yellow fever and malaria outbreaks, they left and let the French have it.

Morning, J.

Scares me to read about the hay ride.  There was a bunch of people killed here one Halloween when a car hit a similar hay ride.  No tail lights, etc...  Sad.

But glad y'all had fun.  It should be a good day of football, albeit minus Bama.

Sounds like y'all had a good time, J. It's been years since I've been on a hay ride. But I remember it well.  Tongue

We'll be framing inside walls today, so if you guys are bored -- come over and lift a hammer.  It's beyond chilly already today (32 now), so I'm going to bundle up.  Hopefully all of the volunteers won't bail on us.

We took that into consideration and we weren't on any public roads, just the church property.

I wish we had Bama to watch, Preacher, but I guess we'll have to settle for watching the Auburn-Ole Miss elimination game.

I certainly had that one in mind also. I hope auburn wins. We can't play ole miss again but we can beat auburn and clear part of this mess up. RTR!

Early afternoon, boys. Getting some honey-do stuff done around here with no Bama game, but I'll tune in to watch the Rebel Black Bears and the Barn later. Hope everything is copacetic with everyone else.
