There was a Bostonian coming home from the war that found all the streets and neighborhoods had changed from how he remembered them.  All he'd been dreaming of the past few months as his end of tour approached was enjoying his favorite seafood dish back home.  Now finally he was here, and he was dismayed to find that his favorite restaurant had closed.  He walked down the street with great disappointment and wandered upon an Irish beat cop.  He asked the gent, "Excuse me officer, I haven't been around in a few years, and I was just wanting to know a good place to get scrod."  The Irishman looked a little shocked at first and then answered <Irish accent>, "Well, sir, I've heard many a man pose the question through the years, but that's the first time I've heard it asked in the pluperfect subjuctive tense!"

HL, yes they did.  The battle of Bridgeport pitted just under 500 Confederate soldiers against over 5000 Union soldiers.  The north won again...  Cry  For the record though, it was a lot of fun watching and talking with the various "soldiers" from both sides.  They also had a guy scheduled to shoot some 100 lb. anvils into the air.  This particular fellow has done it at the Bridgeport re-enactment for the last 14 years.  Unfortunately he passed away in February but his daughter took his place.  They shot the "Iron Cross" as a memorial afterwards.  This is where they fire two anvils upwards and across towards the other's base location and they then fire another one straight up.  That was extremely loud but awesome.  The kids even got to "fire" some period muskets...

Good foggy morning.  Coffee

Yes, it's warm and foggy today.  But the cold front should move through, and it will cool down this afternoon.

Meanwhile, 2 has gone to the beach with his buddy D this morning.  They're hoping to recapture the excitement of actually landing a fish!  Fortunately D knows the techniques, and hopefully he has the luck that our group usually lacks.

I'm heading back to the knife show.  Good stuff yesterday, visiting with friends and trading knives for silver dollars.  Fun day.

Good morning folks.  I agree Chech, hopefully 2 can figure out how to consistently catch fish and then teach the rest of us...  Enjoy the show today.

Yeah, that was the best part IMO.  In your travels keep an eye open for a 100# anvil.  I would love to have one but not for shooting it into the air though...  Wink

My cousin has one of those big anvils; probably well over 100# though.  RE and I saw it when we were on the coast 2 weeks ago.  Doubt he'd sell.

I see them all the time at antique malls, but they're pricey.

BTW, I wasn't able to get another of those CASE NATIONAL-CHAMP KNIVES.  Jim Sargent has them, and he passed away earlier this month.  His daughter usually goes to shows, but she isn't at the one I'm attending this weekend.

2 just sent me a text from the beach.

No, silly, he didn't catch anything yet.

But FRED showed up.  Where Fred goes, so go the fish (usually).  Here's hoping!!

Yeah, the anvils that I've found are pricey too.  I'm looking for one that isn't so much...  I didn't follow up on trying to get one of the knives either.  Money was pretty tight at the time then I forgot about them...
