Alabama fixture Clem Gryska passes away at age 84

Clem Gryska, a former Alabama player (1945-48), assistant coach, recruiter and administrator for Paul Bryant, died Monday in Tuscaloosa. He was 84.

Clem Gryska was a walking -talking history book on Alabama Football. I met him at the Bryant Museum a few years ago. He was extremely nice, kind and very funny. He was telling first one story and then another to anyone who would listen to him.

Well done Coach Gryska. The University of Alabama is a better place because of you.

A caller on Finebaum told a great Coach Gryska story:

Ken Donahue, who was the DC for Bear Bryant for many years had passed away. Donahue worked his last few years at Tennessee. At the funeral several people was standing around admiring Philip Fulmers 1998 championship ring. One guy noticed Coach Gryska was wearing a championship ring. In front of a large group of people the guy asked what year the championship ring was from. Coach answered "I don't know I just pulled one out of the drawer and put it on".

According to the caller Coach Gryska had 7 rings.
