Yes, Ricky, the wolves are faster than the elk.  And the bison are slower than elk.  But elk taste better (and put up less fight).

This photo was taken today (5-11-23) along the Lamar River (YNP).

Hey Chechem I was watching a program with my wife and I saw Buffaloe that had tags in their ears. Do you ever see that type of animal with tags?  Cheesy Cheesy RTR!
Preacher, those "buffaloe" with tags in their ears are actually extremely rare Bison, not buffaloe. They are not only extremely rare but quite elusive as well.  Almost as rare and elusive as the Snipe we used to take our friends out hunting... Wink

I did not know this at all. thanks very much. RTR!
The ones with tags or collars in Yellowstone are research animals.  They capture them, take blood samples, etc.  They want to track parasites, disease, and behavior.

It was foggy yesterday in the mountains, so I saw just 6 grizzlies.  I'd seen 13 on Wednesday.  This guy was down in the flats (below the fog).  Just digging roots.

Congrats to the Alabama softball team.  I listened to the game until late last night.  Despite the obnoxious hog calls, Bama won 3-2 in 9 innings.

Quite a show today when the wolves went after a small herd of elk.  The video is on FB.

Happy Hump Day, all.

If Chech sees a camel out in the Yellowstone snow today, we'll know this climate change stuff is getting serious.

Laughing  Haven't seen any yet.  And I had no idea it was Wednesday.

Blurry pic taken from my video (posted on FB).  Three wolves are attacking a grizzly.  They nipped and spun the grizzly for 15 minutes until it left the den area.  Don't screw with mama wolf!

HL: No, the bears are still pretty skinny.  None of the grizzlies with new cubs have emerged from their dens.  And we've only seen 2 black bears so far.  It's cold here.

Ricky: I haven't been fishing yet.  The lake is iced.

Not my pic

I spent most of Monday watching bears, like this grizzly being followed by Canada Geese and a pair of Sandhill Cranes.  Why?  Probably the birds were protecting nests.  Anyhow, this pic isn't great; the video was better.  I saw 12 grizzlies Monday, and ended the day watching a wolf eating little frogs.

Chech, how far is your cabin from where you used to stay, and have you seen your owner friends?

And Happy Birthday, Preacher!!!

The place that had the gas explosion is about 60 miles from where I stay now.  My friends who ran that motel are living with relatives in Utah.  I chat with them via text, but that's all.  No details about plans.

Happy Birthday, Ricky!!

Here are some of the wolves I saw yesterday.  These 3 were chasing a herd of 12 bison, hoping to separate and gobble a newborn calf.  But the bison adults were protecting their calves well, and the wolves left hungry.  These wolves belong to the Shrimp Lake pack.  The alpha male is in front, and the other gray is the alpha female.  That's a black yearling standing next to its Mom.  Photo taken May 7, 2023.

I rent a cabin next door to this cafe.  Yes, the snow is crazy deep this year.  She shoveled my access before I arrived.

Quite a first day.  I saw 10 grizzlies and a whole bunch of wolves (10-15).

Got this from Chech yesterday. I wonder where he's going?

Looks like he made it to Oklahoma.
