The news media are a bunch of slugs!  Whoever took and SOLD this picture of Steve Jobs should be horsewhipped!  (I am out of metaphors to mix!)  Steve Jobs is a very ill man and probably will die soon.  I'm sure this is a very difficult time for him and his family.  Just leave them alone!  God bless Steve Jobs for all the wonderful things he has created for this world with his extraordinary vision.  And God bless Steve Jobs for just being a child of God.

I wonder who is seeing after "man's best friend" since his passing?

Apparently some one who loves both of them and knows dogs.  Someone had to bring the dog to the funeral.  I suspect it is in the hands of a member or members of Jon's family.

On another note, Fox showed a clip of this funeral this morning.  The dog lay there the entire time and lead the procession out of the church.  This song was played at the funeral.  I know it well since it is one I love.  If you can watch the video this song and visualize the picture with the casket and the dog without tearing up,  you are stronger than I.  I sat at my computer and cried.

Suggestion Wednesday or Thursday if possible.  I can't come on Tuesdays and Fridays because of chiropractor appts.  Best food we've had so far is Longhorn Steaks - none of those chicken wing stuff. Maybe we can get Leewillie to come down for Longhorn!

Is Flyboy on CRS?  He always used to come.  And what has happened to CTG? She was a regular too.  I'll drag KokoPuf (aka Hedduk) over there!

I need to do it some time after Labor Day because I am tied up with the 2011 St. William Seafood Festival which is Labor Day Saturday, Sept. 3.  I'm Chairman of the Dessert committee.  So you all come on over on that Saturday, eat some good food and watch the airshow over Lake Guntersville.  Fun starts at 10:30 AM and goes until the food runs out (usually about 2 PM)

I'd post the flyer but its a .pdf and bigger than the maximum size allowed.
52  Around Campus / Ferguson Student Center / Re: Anybody ever been on the Atkins diet? on: August 23, 2011, 10:35:20 AM
MY hubby and I have both used the Atkins diet as our preferred method of losing weight.  We both like it because you can eat meat and cheese and things we like.   I'm not a bread and potatoes person so giving those up is easy for me.  However, neither of us has ever done a completely strict Atkins because we always have some fruit at breakfast.I never lost a lb. a day even though I already walk 2 miles a day with our dogs and ride a recumbent bike 10.6 miles 6 days a week.

For all the fuss from doctors about how bad it is for you, we both had a major improvement in our good cholesterol at our next doctor's check-up.  I have a good reading anyway and have never had to take cholesterol drugs.  His was not as good although it wasn't that bad but he is on Crestor.

I'm taking a few pounds off right now but because of fresh peaches, cherries, and canteloupes, which I refuse to give up,  I am counting calories instead of doing Atkins.  I still do the same exercise.  I'm not exactly a chunk so I don't lose weight quickly but I've averaged a little over a lb a week.  I have about 5 more lbs. to go and after that I get too skinny looking.

I do think that Atkins is a wonderful winter diet because all the good fruits aren't around then.  And I do think it is healthy and gives you energy once you get past the first few days of the funny fuzz in your stomach ketosis feeling.  Men always lose weight faster than women.  I think it's because your muscles burn it better.  Hence, I'm just happy to watch the weight on the scale slowly drop!

If you need something to sweeten tea, coffee, etc. I find liquid Stevia is the best. You have to experiment with the right amount because it can get way too sweet easy.  I gave up all sugar sweetened drinks when I was in my 20s and have never gone back to them (and that was awhile ago for sure!) but I still want my drinks sweetened.  I also use Stevia to sweeten my breakfast fruit and just drop a drop here and there on it and stir. We also keep Equal and Sweet 'n Low in the house.  He prefers Sweet 'n Low in his iced tea.

I'm on Facebook and I haven't seen any indication that there have been any luncheons so relax guys!  I guess if you want one during football season Nalt is going to have to organize it!

TP Law is posting on Facebook as Tina Miller Parker, if anyone wants to "friend" her.  She has been hosting a side forum on Facebook which is called "Tidesports Posters".  For awhile it had a chat feature, but  Facebook disabled it for some reason, possibly too many posters.

She announced today that she is engaged to Johnny Holland.  She has been posting pictures of him and her.  If I count right, he has two children a boy and a girl who appear to be under 12.  She seems very happy with him and is over the moon today.

You might post a response to her of this site.  I'll tell her on Facebook to check her CRS site - that her friends are calling for her! Cheesy

  Applause E-Cred

I find this thread quite fascinating. Please continue.

I'd like to hear more too.  I went to college in Atlanta and worked there my entire Federal career.  Before our office moved to the center of town it was located at the corner of Peachtree and 7th. Street.  All the lunch places were further up Peachtree and so I walked by Margaret Mitchell's house almost every day.  It didn't look nearly this nice at the time.  As mid-town Atlanta became fashionable all the area was improved and while being really nice now is an area of major congestion!

Here is a link that shows her home, which was actually an apartment in a building of apartments: http://www.margaretmitchellhouse.com/

I read Gone with the Wind when I was 11 years old and was always fascinated by Margaret Mitchell.  Obviously Atlanta was too.  I seen the movie too many times to count.  When I read about her I know all the streets, buildings, etc. and the cemetery where she is buried.  As you see, I still find her a fascinating topic!

Margaret Mitchell actually wrote a book before she wrote "Gone with the Wind".

In the 1990s, a manuscript by Mitchell of a novel entitled Lost Laysen was discovered among a collection of letters Mitchell had given in the early 1920s to a suitor named Henry Love Angel. The manuscript had been written in two notebooks in 1916. In the 1990s, Angel's son discovered the manuscript and sent it to the Road to Tara Museum, which authenticated the work. A special edition of Lost Laysen — a romance set in the South Pacific — was edited by Debra Freer, augmented with an account of Mitchell and Angel's romance including a number of her letters to him, and published by the Scribner imprint of Simon & Schuster in 1996.
