I am shocked that Brockemeyer is leaving. I thought he would be the starting Center for us this year. RTR!

Yea, me too.  This is not good.  Right now, I don't know if there are any centers in the portal to consider.  Gotta hope the guy from Wash gets his act together and stays healthy all next season.

2  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Spring FB Transfer Portal on: April 22, 2024, 07:11:43 PM
The Lou Groza winner from last season has committed to Bama.  Only one year of eligibility left but still good news for next year's team.

Maybe he can give our offense a kick now and then....

3  Around Campus / The Quad / Spring FB Transfer Portal on: April 19, 2024, 09:39:24 PM
Surprising to me how subdued it has been so far. Maybe the academic calendar at some schools has something to do with it.  I dunno.  Maybe there is some behind-the-scenes stuff going on.

4  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Greg Byrne discusses Eli Gold’s departure from Alabama football broadcast on: March 03, 2024, 11:45:40 AM
IMHO... All parties involved in making this decision -- Byrne, CTSN, and Eli himself -- handled it poorly.  We don't know what went on behind the scenes.  With the change in HC it is an opportune/appropriate time to change the play-by-play announcer.

Eli had slipped a few notches as a play-by-play guy. Too bad he didn't realize that.  He could have been more classy in his exit comments.  The Univ supported him when he was sick yet he barely mentioned that.

CTSN could have maybe tried harder to create some lesser role for Eli apart from the game coverage, that would have been a transition to retirement.  Don't know if Eli would have gone for that.

Oh well....

This is shocking.  I didn't know Hanny well at all; just from CRS. From the little direct interaction I had with him, I could tell he was a stand-up guy. He will certainly be missed.

May God comfort his family.

6  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Do any of Alabama Football's SEC opponents have a Coordinator advantage? on: February 27, 2024, 09:22:10 AM
Preacher I will disagree slightly.  We need good players to play well on every play.  But players play in the context of the scheme devised by the OC & DC with input from the HC. I think CKD has put together a staff that has the promise to be very good across the board. But they have to prove it in practice and especially in-game. In the SEC, you have to make effective in-game adjustments and you have to make them quickly.  Can't always wait until halftime.

I hope our offensive play design will be much more creative than it has been for the last 10 years.  Maybe longer.   I don't know what our defensive staff will do.  Defense is my biggest worry for next year.  As coach Bryant used to say: You gotta keep from losing before you can win.

7  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Eli on: February 22, 2024, 01:40:33 PM
I may be in the minority, but I like Chris Stewart much better. Eli talks too much and says very little. Listening to him while you are watching a game is fine. If you have radio only, he does not do a good job of keeping you up to speed on down, distance, time, and score.

Chris Stewart is outstanding in basketball and baseball. He will do a great job with football.

Living in Florida, I haven't gotten to hear Eli much.  What I heard last season was a step back from what Eli used to add to a broadcast. To me, last season felt like Eli's farewell tour.  The broadcast team needs ONE voice for all the FB games.  Always a little sad when a change like this has to be made, but it was time to turn the page.

Also, very common for a new "voice" when a new HC comes in.

8  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Alabama Football: Names to watch at Offensive Coordinator after Ryan Grubb's dep on: February 19, 2024, 01:12:11 PM
Also hired a new tight ends coach.  Just hope they are good coaches.

Well, here we are...another week gone by and still no OL coach.  Not a good look for Bama. I hope this delay means CKD is not happy with the candidates he is finding and will keep looking until he finds the "right" guy.

Or maybe it means he found good candidates and they didn't want to come to Bama.  I hope not.

10  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Alabama Coach Who Followed Kalen DeBoer Could Leave Program for NFL Team, per Re on: February 12, 2024, 09:29:46 AM
Well, now more bad news and more disarray on the Bama coaching staff. Now being reported that Scott Huff (our new OL coach) is also going to the Seahawks. CNS talked about overcoming adversity but so much coaching churn in such a short time is a bad look for the team. The Portal will open again after spring ball so get a grip.  May be a bumpy ride.

Grubb's departure is awful.  Just awful.  Not only do we loose a great OC/QB coach who knows CDB's offense very well, but this also prolongs the image of the program being unsettled. At least he waited until the 30-day portal had closed. Spring ball now becomes critical to holding onto offensive players, and keeping recruits focused on Bama.  This is going to hurt us.

12  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: The World of NIL, Transfer Portals, & the NCAA Per R Pitino on: February 05, 2024, 06:57:46 PM
Remember the good ole days when a college scholarship was worth something?

At Dartmouth they don't give schollys, but the men's BB team still wants to unionize.  Sheesh.

Couldn't find a thread to post this.  See comments from Rick Pitino. Sounds a lot like what CNS has been saying.  There's no cop on the beat 'cause NCAA enforcement is useless. Anything goes, or, almost anything.

(Aside: Pitino was fired by Louisville in 2017 for NCAA violations. The final ruling from NCAA came out in 2022 and exonerated him.)

This is like continuing aftershocks following an earth quake.  They just keep coming.

Grubb leaving would be a huge loss and have an immediate impact on recruiting that would take months to overcome. From what's been announced, the admin (AD et al) have been slow to get the new coaches to sign contracts, and get the contracts approved by the BOD. With so much coaching turnover in college & pro, we need to get these guys locked up.  I'd do at least two year contracts.  We need coaching stability after what's happened in the last month.

15  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: BREAKING: Four-Star EDGE Noah Carter tells me he has Committed to Alabama! on: January 25, 2024, 05:09:13 PM
CDB's coattails are bringing in some good players from out west.  Hope some of them can make immediate contribution.
