Johnson, who was a track star in high school, thinks he could beat Bolt in a race under the right conditions.

"I feel like if I would have kept training for track I'd have a chance, but I play football and he runs track, so it's totally different," Johnson told The Tennessean. "I think I could still probably beat him in the 40. If I actually trained for the distance he trained for, I think I'd have a chance."

I suppose it is possible, as Bolt trains for longer distances and might not hit his top speed over a shorter distance.  Still, this guy is pretty full of himself.

OK, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE  NO JUMBO PACKAGES!! If I have to hear Eli mention that formation one more time, I might throw myself from the top of Jurdan-Hair and let the barners toilet paper me.
Wasn't LeRon McClain mostly used as a FB at Bama?  Talk about a waste of talent.

He'll wonder why his RBs keep running out of bounds!

If the Missouri coaching staff thinks those two girls are going to be a distraction, they have no idea what their team is in for when they visit an SEC stadium. Sundresses as far as the eye can see, people. If anything, coach Gary Pinkel should welcome all coeds into the stadium during practice to run the stairs, jump up and down and cheer, sip mixed drinks in tents with chandeliers, yell "Hotty Toddy," whatever. It would be as much preparation for the SEC as any of the Tigers' on-field drills.

Wonder if O'Brien is wondering what in the world he was thinking taking this position right now.

If you really think about it, he has nothing to lose. Nothing will be expected of him for at least 4 years, probably more like 6 or 7. .500 teams will earn him kudos. Not a bad gig, really.
I think his contract called for an extension if sanctions hit, so he has several years with low expectations.

Of course, try telling that to Mike Shula.

I thought it was common for Saban to practice the newcomers separately from the old hands on the first day.

Texas does takes its HS football seriously. I really enjoyed going to HS games when I lived there.
13103  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Braves continue where they left off last year on: August 06, 2012, 10:33:37 AM
Sorry, fellas.  You guys can blame me for the Braves' loss on Saturday night.  I was at Turner Field, and the Braves RARELY win when I'm there.  I didn't think my hex would be strong enough for them to lose to the lowly 'Stros, but I underestimated my power apparently.
I was at the game Friday night for the win.  Maybe you should just give me your tickets.   Cheesy

The letter cites Denney for failing ''to conform to law and (using) poor judgment'' by confiscating without legal justification a gun found during the traffic stop of a car driven by Dyer, not long after the former Auburn star joined Arkansas State and coach Gus Malzahn. The letter says the trooper disposed of potential evidence by dumping the alleged marijuana at the roadside and improperly turned off the video recorder in his cruiser during the top.

Yeah, that's what he did with it!    Wink
13106  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Alabama ranked No. 2 in 2012 preseason coaches' poll on: August 02, 2012, 08:56:35 PM
For what it is worth, I think UGa may do better than Arkansas this year.  Their defense is much improved under the new coordinator, and they have a pretty good QB coming back.  They won 10 games last year.  They might be able to do that again this year.  I don't see any for sure losses on their schedule.  Every game seems winnable.
The SEC is still Bama/LSU and then everyone else. I think these two teams are still head and shoulders above everyone else in the SEC, and probably the nation.

Last year Georgia played LSU close for a half, lost to Boise State and USCe early on, beat Georgia Tech pretty soundly, and lost to Michigan State in overtime.  These are not the results of a top 10 team, maybe top 15, but Georgia was in its first year with its defense.  (And Michigan State had learned its lesson the previous year against Bama).

While Georgia returns its QB and defensive scheme, I still wouldn't put Georgia quite in the top 10, because of their lack of depth, and owing to their coaching.  While all their games are winnable, I just can't see Georgia winning all their games.  The early road game to Missouri is a trap game, if Georgia doesn't take it seriously.  Missouri will be well prepared for that game, welcome to the SEC.  Georgia has to travel to USCe this year -- my money is on Spurrier and the Gamecocks.  And I think Muschamp and the Gators will be better this year, not quite the deer-in-the-headlights, though I'd have to see the product on the field to have an opinion on the outcome of that game.  Anyway, Georgia loses at least one of those three games, USCe, and maybe one of the other two.  Ge

But still, I think you are comparing apples and oranges when you try to compare SEC schools with other conferences, and the results on the field indicate that the SEC deserves its high ratings.  Some people look at offensive statistics and claim the SEC has no offense, but that's not the case, the SEC just puts great athletes on defense too.  And, if someone thinks Georgia is overrated, who would you put ahead of them, outside of other SEC schools like Arkansas or USCe?
13107  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Another Starter Bites the Dust at Penn State and Transfers Out on: August 02, 2012, 08:01:52 PM
This is turning out almost as bad as the death penalty.  With the death penalty, there is no football for a year, and all the players transfer out.  And, while SMU had the death penalty for one year, the following year they could not field a football team because they did not have enough players.  In those days, there were not the same limits to numbers of scholarships that could be offered like there are today, but SMU still couldn't find enough players.

I wonder if there are any other schools that have been punished with the provision that players are free to transfer (other than PSU and SMU).

13109  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Did anyone else see on ESPN tonight(siap) on: August 02, 2012, 07:46:08 AM
Well UGA isn't going to take them all, CR was just covering his bases.  Georgia has an astonishly low number of scholarship players on the roster right now -- you would think they have been under sanctions.  So UGA probably is trying to fill out its roster a bit.  The language of the press release, I think, is misleading, with enough hedge words to give the appearance of truth.
13110  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Auburn QB to Transfer-No Longer on Team on: August 02, 2012, 07:42:22 AM
My guess is that he quit the team and Auburn is saying they dismissed him.

I doubt if Foster ever plays a down for the Barn.

Either that or he stunk so bad that they used the public drunk charge as an excuse to send him packing.

There might have been other, non-arrest intoxications or failed drug tests.  As a freshman, I doubt it had to do with his performance on the field, but with his activities off the field.
