Dang, this crap gets old every year. There is a lot to be said about stability in the coaching staff. Just imagine if we had coordinators that stuck around for 3-4 years. This definitely has an effect on things.

It's the price for having a dynasty. Everyone wants a piece of it. No one is looking to get coordinators or position coaches from Auburn, Vandy, Missouri, Texas, South Carolina, UCLA, or other programs.

I'm hoping they start raiding Clemson a bit more.
2  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Jalen Who? He GONE! on: January 15, 2019, 02:35:15 PM
True story. But it was like Emo Phillips took over the play calling in the red zone.
Yes, I blame it on the offensive coaches too.  It was almost like they had one foot out the door.

The more time that passes since the game, the more this idea rings true.

I understand the feeling. I had jobs in which I changed locations for a promotion. The minute you find out you are transferring out, it's almost impossible to keep your focus on your current assignment. Your mind is on moving, finding another home, calling the new location to talk to your new boss, etc. I am sure the coaches tried but their focus was split. Been there, done that.

Exactly.  It takes a special coach with laser focus, someone like Kirby, to maintain their edge while working at a job they're leaving.

Saban of course is put in a Catch 22 -- go with the coach you've had all season or throw some new guy into the mix.  Neither choice is ideal.

Ray was arrested about 7 p.m. Friday night after refusing to leave an establishment and was detained by security until Tuscaloosa police arrived. Following an initial investigation, officers determined Ray was intoxicated, and he was transported to the police department for booking before going to the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

7 p.m. and he's acting stupid.  Should have just left.
5  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Sark Coming Back as OC? on: January 13, 2019, 02:47:24 PM
Sark has had success running offenses on the college level, but was a dumpster fire in Atlanta this year. A total red zone disaster. He gets fired and immediately comes here. That worries me. I know we have a ton of talent on offense and many will think there is no way he can screw that up. But Atlanta probably had the most talent on offense than most any other team in the NFL. Sark failed miserably.

But Saban has made a habit of bringing coaches in and making them look good. Let's hope that happens again this time.

I'm not a big fan of Sark.  But apparently he has been hired in some capacity and I hope he does well.  Click here for link

Smith is not ready. I'm not even sure he'll get drafted. Thompson should wait a year, IMO.
I think they both should wait too. But these kids think big, too big sometimes.

Jalen is trying to see the country in a week.  He's visiting Maryland, Miami and Oklahoma so far.

Bama had the lead for most of the game.

3.4 secs for Aggies to hit winning 3 pointer.   Banging your head against the wall.

Thanks for the updates.  I don't get SECN on Sling (which I'm dumping after the month is out.)
10  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Ass't Coaches Turnover on: January 12, 2019, 08:57:57 AM
First, like ricky said, Saban is hard to work for.  One coach told us, when I was coaching, that when Saban left MSU for LSU he sent the jet back for assistants and no one got on.  Second, successful programs assistant coaches are going to be in high demand.  Just look at the SEC where Muschamp, Fisher, Smart, and Puritt were all coaches under Saban.

No one questions Saban is hard to work for.  I think these coaches with no ties to Alabama or Saban see the job as a stepping stone, a resume builder.  Grind it out a few years then move on.

Saban is old school, all hard work.  Dabo has kept his assistants for several years, emphasizing hard work and having fun at the same time.  While Clemson hasn't had the same exact level of success as Bama, they're a close #2.  And they're Clemson, without the same history or State recruiting base as Alabama.  I think Bama gets revenge on Clemson next year, and Saban still is the master, but here's food for thought:  Dabo is about the same age as Saban was when he took the LSU job.

Gotta think Miami is in play with the news that Enos is going there.
no doubt

If you're going to play with 2 guesses, then it's either OU or Arizona.   Lips Sealed
To narrow it down, my Texas schools would be TCU or Houston -- since ricky already has TCU, I'll take Houston.  And if you're going PAC12, Arizona is only a possibility if Tate transfers.  I think UCLA is more likely with Chip Kelly.  (Another possibility is Jalen follows Locksley to Maryland, but I think it unlikely.)

Houston or UCLA

Godspeed Jalen.  We wouldn't be SEC Champs without you.

I hope he goes to a well coached team where he can play a lot.  Such a team may not have the greatest talent but could be a place where can shine.

I agree, McB. I will certainly miss him but I hope he goes somewhere where he can drive up his NFL stock.
I just hope he chooses wisely, and doesn't pick a school where he'd be dead to me.
This.  He CANNOT  go to another SEC school...
Well, he can go to Kentucky, or Vandy, or Missouri -- Bama won't play those teams next year.  (Bama plays TN and SC in the regular season.)

He won't go to GA -- they're set on QBs.

I think Jalen's best fit in the SEC is at Florida -- Mullins runs the kind of RPO system where Jalen would thrive.  (I'd rather see him at Florida than Oklahoma.)

But I doubt Jalen remains in the SEC.  For one season, maybe he goes closer to home and plays for a Texas school in the Big12.  Or else he goes all West Coast and joins the PAC12.  Jalen could look like a superstar playing the defenses in these conferences.

Well it took me some time to read this, but I finally managed.  Thanks for your insights coach.  Spot on as usual.   Applause E-Cred
