DW saw playing time early and caught a few balls.  Seems to be a speed guy.  Needs to get in the weight room.

Are the accomplishments of CNS more impressive than CBB?  If you look at it CB did not have the scholarship restrictions that the present day coach has to work under.  This is in no way saying CB was not a great coach.

I'M MAD!!!!! Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry BLASPHEMER!!!!!!!

Seriously though, that is a good question to think about. I don't know that CNS has been MORE impressive. Yeah, there were no scholly restrictions, but that was true for every school during CPB's time. Those players could have gone to any other school, but chose to accept an offer from the Tide and to play for the best coach in the country. Plus, as we all know, great in HS does not always translate to college. Great coaching was a necessity. Now, having said all that, what CNS has done in the past few years with all the restrictions the NZAA has now  is nothing short of remarkable. In the end, I think you just have to say that each did well in their particular eras with the regulations that were in pacle at each time.
Great points.

Also, don't forget about Jesse on the DL.
.  Yep my mistakes
3530  Around Campus / The Quad / I think it was Carl who ask for this: on: January 18, 2012, 10:28:45 PM
In my game notes I think it was Carl for me to give my assessment of what I think about Bama next year.  He is what I think about some strengths and weaknesses for Bama.
QB:  This is strength with AJ McCarron coming back and a good back up with a year under his belt in Phil Sims.  I really think AJ’s confidence for next year will be a plus for the offense.  I had only hoped that Bama had put some of these games away earlier so PS could have gotten more playing time.
RB:  Bama still seems strong here.  They have experience with Eddie Lacey and Jalston Fowler.  I don’t remember EL fumbling but maybe once if any this year and without looking it up probably averaged over 5 yards per carry.  If what everyone says about Dee Hart this could only add strength to this position.
Rec:  I think this could be a strength, but there are questions.   Kevin Norwood showed the potential he has in the NC game.  If he can continue to play at this level he could be special.  Kenny Bell and DeAndrew White show potential, but it seem in games they had trouble getting lined up at times. I also would not be surprised to see Chris Jones here.  I really liked what I saw from him in the NC game as a return man.   If this is the case then they may also bust routes at times.  Duron Carter, I am not sure about him or if he will be a part of the Bama team.
TE:  Michael Williams returns for his Sr year, but I don’t know who they plan on using with him.  Also, who can play the, what I call h-back position like Brad Smelly did.  I complained a lot about him the 2010 season, but he played well all year.
OL:  I see this as a strength.  You have Fluker, McCullough, Steen, Jones, and Warmack coming back.  You also have Cyrus Kouandjio and his brother Arie.  On the roster I saw Chad Lindsey and some coaches out here told me he was the real deal.  Think about this.  I am not saying it will happen but, what if they move Jones to center, where he played some this year and he wins the Remmington  for best center.
DL:  Plenty of experience coming back.  Bama has Damion Square, Quinton Dial, Brandon Moore, Darrington Sentimore, and Ed Stinson coming back.  Also, Freshman Jeffry Pagan got a few reps this year.  I think Ed Stinson quite solid year.
LB:  Plenty of experience coming back here at LB.   Bama has Johnson, Mosley, Depriest along with Hubbard.  Now Tana Patrick and Atchinson need’s to produce.  You also have leadership with Mosley and Johnson at this position.
Sec:  Experience will be gained on the run in the secondary.  You have Lester and Millner returning.  Sunsuri got a little experience when Lowery went down.  My question is will he transfer to play for his father?  Ha Ha Clinton-Dix got some experience on special teams with John Fulton.    Lester could provide leader ship.

I think we can all agree that CNS and staff will bring in some guys who can contribute from the beginning.   They always have.    Looking at the roster there are a lot of what I believe are highly rated recruits than are going to get the chance to be a factor in the quest for the next National Championship.

Great job by these guys.  Thanks for sharing.
3532  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Dre busted on: January 17, 2012, 09:38:15 PM
This disappoints me and I do believe it could cost him a few spots in the draft.  I also can hear other teams/fans saying if he did it then he was doing it all year questioning the Bama program.  This is what I really hate.
3533  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: BSC National Championship Bama vs LSU game notes: on: January 16, 2012, 03:49:24 PM
Also in the two games TR alone almost have as many yards as LSU did in the combined game.  He outgained LSU in the second game by himself.
LSU says he was held in check if you throw out his 2 big runs. LOL.  LSU was "held in check" if you throw out their 2 FGs in game 1.
The only thing that held them in check was the overthrows to BS a DH, along with the drop by BG.

staying away from the playmakers Tyrann Mathieu

I think I remember at least 3 completitions over the honey bonger.  What game was this guy watching?
3536  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: BSC National Championship Bama vs LSU game notes: on: January 15, 2012, 07:22:18 PM
I mentioned the great play of the front seven in the first notes which means the safeties didn't make many tackles.  RL had 1 solo and 2 assist while MB had 1 solo and 1 assist.
3537  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: BSC National Championship Bama vs LSU game notes: on: January 15, 2012, 07:19:05 PM
Too all, I am glad you enjoy the notes.  It is fun for me to do and it enables me to talk Bama football with a lot of Bama fans.    I do wonder this, do the notes make you watch the game a little differently?

it sure makes me re-watch it more closely , without the , you know , clutter
thanks for all you do for so many , awesome thing you do for everyone Coach !

Same here. I record all the games and watch the replay after your notes. I spend that time going "Son of a gun, he was right!". Drives Wifey crazy.

Laughing

I have learned a lot from your notes.  It helps me to see things in the next game that I may have overlooked before.  For example, in this game, I picked up on the fact that we were generally getting our tails handed to us when we tried to run to the right on 3rd and short, typically getting hit behind the line of scrimmage.  I kept telling everyone here that if we are going to run the ball on an obvious run down, at least run it to the left where our OL is better.  Then later on, guess which side we ran to when Trent scored the TD.  I felt pretty good about that.

I didn't track it, but it would be very interesting to see how many yards we got going to the right, up the middle, and to the left.  I would bet there is a huge difference on runs to the left.  Before I started reading your notes, I probably would not have noticed details like that.  In my mind I would have lumped all the runs together.

I have a much better eye for details now, even to the point were I look at the formations and notice when there aren't enough guys on the line of scrimmage.  A lot of times I tell everybody watching with me what the penalty is going to be before they even throw the flag.

You got me thinking and I watched the O again.  It looked like many of the successful runs started between the guards and the running back would break it to one side or the other.  I do think when they broke to the left they had more success.  I left this out of the first note, but I did comment on how well WV played, but if you watch again, in the 2nd quarter at about 5:51 watch the great block WV makes that allows EL to gain big yardage.  I also noticed that when AJ overthrew BS he also had an open BG deep in the middle of the field.
3538  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Urban back in the spotlight on: January 15, 2012, 03:21:12 PM
The thing here to me is again Bama is getting a lot of press just like a couple of years ago when Bama beat UF and won the NC.  Urban wasn't getting his usual attention so he retires because of sickness.  Now he was getting a little press, but it had slowed when Bama won the NC.  What happens here comes Urban somehow getting back in the headlines.
