Carl I agree with you completely.  I was just making a point of some of the factors coaches have to consider when making these decisions.
3512  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Nick Saban gets Alabama players ready for NFL on: February 13, 2012, 10:55:24 AM
I think he does not lie and tell them exactly what they want to hear.  He tells them there will be competition for your spot and if you show you need to play you will play.  Bama gives players a great opportunity to be a competitor and move to the next level.  If they are willing to work hard, have the talent, and do what is right during their tenure at Bama, then they will have a chance to go to the pros and play.
3513  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: In Support of Coach Grant on: February 13, 2012, 10:49:40 AM
This is not a bash, but a reality coaches have to deal with.  Not only are you puishing the players, but the team is also hurt for those who have done things right.  Coaches have to deal with this all the time.  I, myself, have sat player for being late and it has hurt my team.  I have since change the policy where these players don't start, but will play later if needed.  They will also have to run as part of the punishment after the next practice.  There are some punishments I have no control over, but will follow the guidlelines established by our school.
3514  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Anthony Grant discusses the latest suspensions on: February 12, 2012, 09:58:06 AM
I support CAG and his decision.  A couple of years ago I had C.C.C. put on the back of our practice shirts.  They stood for Coachability, Character, and Committment.  If they players did not live up to this then their shirts could be taken away and suspended for games.
3515  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Grant sends 3 players home on: February 11, 2012, 11:46:05 PM
I don't think anything major happened, more like what some of you guys are saying, a curfew violation or drinking, etc. At least it happened against LSU, instead of Miss. State or Florida.

Don't ypu think if it was something minor he would have allowed them to sit on the bench all night and semd them home.  My question is when does JMG run out of chances?  AS a 5 year sr. should know better, maybe this should be his final also.  As far as I know TR, this is his first trouble.
3516  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Taking a Stand for Coach Saban on: February 05, 2012, 03:16:49 PM
Thanks for your comments, but most of all thanks for showing your side as a professor and has the inside track.
3517  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: OK the question that has been on my mind but I didn't want to ask.. on: February 03, 2012, 02:00:24 PM
I honestly don't know enough about the young man to say he will stay or leave. I do know that AJM had a better situation because Bama got leads that allowed him to get more back up time, behind GMac, than PS did.  This allowed AJ to be, in my opinion, further along in his development.  If Bama had put games away earlier and allowed PS to get into more game, then I think people would have a better guage on if he would stay or go.  This would also make him push AJ harder in the spring.  Competitors want to play.
3518  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Les Miles Rips on Gunner on: February 02, 2012, 06:04:13 PM
I know a certain kicker that has no use for Miles.
3519  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Wow...talk about a butt-hurt article on Bama recruiting... on: February 02, 2012, 08:26:36 AM
Many coaches do the same and honestly it is a bad situation for the kids and coaches.  Second, AU would have done the same thing if they had the opportunity.
3520  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: "Alabama’s lone quarterback commit not top on the charts" on: January 31, 2012, 12:40:39 PM
I wonder do they have a position change in mind for this young man.  Wasn't BS a high school QB?
3521  Around Campus / The Quad / Reasons why top players sign with Bama: on: January 31, 2012, 11:43:15 AM
There are reason some of the top players want to come to Bama and here are a few:
1.  They want to have a chance at a National Championship.
2.  They want to have a chance to play in the NFL.
3.  They are competitors.  You can't be afraid of competition for your position if you want to play at Bama.
4.  They want to be winners.
Please feel free to add.
3522  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: "Top-ranked kicker, Tide commit performs in the clutch" on: January 29, 2012, 10:54:15 AM
It didn't look like he used a block when he kicked.  If this is true he is ahead of the game.  Many kicker have to adapt to going from a 3 inch block to kicking off the ground.  This is what helped Colt David who went to LSU.  Colt was a ready kicking off the ground his Sr year in high school.
3523  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: "Joe Namath, teammates in new HBO documentary" on: January 29, 2012, 10:47:22 AM
I also thought it was well done.  One thing I think it really brought out was what a great all around athlete JWN was.  I think I remember reading a book about CBB, that he said JN was the best DB on the team or something to that effect.  I also didn't realize how much pain he played in all those years.
3524  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: "Top-ranked kicker, Tide commit performs in the clutch" on: January 27, 2012, 10:20:45 AM
'bout time we recruited a highly ranked kicker..hope he pans out.
I will say ours redeemed himself in the BCS game.
Cade Foster was a very highly ranked kicker. Cade could kick in through the end zone in HS. I don't know what happened. As hscoach has pointed out several times kicking FG in college is much different when you can not use a block.
I hope this guy solves our kicking problems for the next 4 years. How big is he? He looks like a 9th grader.
He is 5' 9" weighs 165
I'm not sure what happens with the kickers once they get on campus as far as any coaching goes but Foster definitly went backwards with his progress.

Cade Foster has an unusual kickoff style.  As a casual observer (well, interested observer), it seems to me that (1) "punching" at the ball as he does could easily injure the kicker, and (2) CF is limited in terms of potential improvement using that technique (i.e., he's maxed out for distance).
You can go to you tube and watch CF's high school highlights and see the difference in kicking styles.
3525  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Who will AJ McCarron throw to in 2012? on: January 26, 2012, 12:57:36 PM
I wonder what kind of hands JF has.  He is big enough to move to the H-back position.
