The University of Tennessee was granted a 30-day extension to respond to the NCAA’s notice of allegations for violations allegedly committed under Tennessee football’s previous staff, per a report from Knox News. The timing is noteworthy, as it makes a potential postseason ban for this season unlikely. The No. 3 Vols are 7-0 and are in contention for a spot in the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff.

Tennessee did not self-impose any postseason bans. The NCAA presented a notice of allegations to Tennessee in July after a lengthy investigation. The notice contains 18 Level 1 violations — the most severe out of the NCAA’s four-level infractions structure — surrounding almost $60,000 worth of cash and gifts provided to recruits, players and their families.

Knox News obtained a copy of the notice of allegations, including a breakdown of each of the 18 violations. Most involve Tennessee’s staff — and Pruitt’s wife, Casey Pruitt — paying for meals, hotel stays and transportation. In some instances, those involved with Tennessee gave recruiting prospects’ parents money...

This happened on Fat Phil's watch as AD.

I doubt much will happen beyond the self-imposed penalties. LSU got very little for making strong azz offers and Auburn got a 1 year post season ban (had a losing record with no chance of post season when that happened) with the whole Chuck Person saga.

Did the feds ever punish Person?  Never heard of there was a trial.

Found it:
Person pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to commit bribery on March 19, 2019; as part of the plea agreement, Person agreed to forfeit $91,500.[16] On July 17, 2019, U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska sentenced Person to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service, finding that "No purpose would be served by incarceration" and citing Person's long record of giving charity.[17] During the sentencing hearing, Person expressed remorse for taking bribes to steer college athletes to a financial adviser who turned out to be a government informant.[17] Preska rejected prosecutors' argument that Person was motivated by "insatiable greed" and described Person during the sentencing hearing as "charitable to a fault"; she told him, "Keep up the good work."
