Title: Alabama Non-Conference BB Schedule
Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 06, 2022, 09:31:54 PM
What a great looking schedule/challenge for Tide basketball and its many new players. Hows this for a chance for the team to shine:

Michigan State
Gonzaga
Houston
Memphis
UCONN (maybe)
Oklahoma
Oregon (maybe)

Plus, we still have to play UK, UT, Auburn & all the other SEC teams. Now, let's see some TEAM play this year on offense and DEFENSE and limit the wild 3 pointers we took last year.

Hoping this year's team can play with more consistency and find a way to win the games they should win, while competing with the top-tier teams. Last year's team seemed to lack a leader on the court; we will need someone to fill that void this year.

The team is currently in Spain. They open the three game Europe tour on Monday night. Games two and three will be in Paris. There is no TV or streaming available for the games. The team was allowed 10 days of practice prior to the trip. The 7 new freshman and transfers are fitting in well. According to Coach Oats we will look more like the 2020 team than last years. Team chemistry is much better this year.  Brandon Miller is going to be fun to watch. He is 6-9 with an outside shot. Most likely a one and done.

Isn't it great Coach Oats has us talking Basketball with football just around the corner.

This article is from 7/29 that gives an update from a scrimmage open to the public. A lot of good information here.

Quote
The primary ball handlers were Mark Sears (transfer from Ohio) on one team and five-star freshman Jaden Bradley on the other. Bradley is still getting back into basketball shape after foot surgery but coach Nate Oats likes his progress. He got into the lane a few times to finish layups with a creative flare.

Quote
Oats was high on McDonald’s All-American Brandon Miller’s versatility. He said the 6-foot-9 forward from Tennessee could play any position 1-4 and likes the character from such a highly-recruited player. He connected on a 3-pointer from the corner off a strong pass from Ohio transfer Mark Sears, a Muscle Shoals product.

Alabama completed their three game Europe tour yesterday with an impressive 89-77 win over the China National Team. Bama went 3-0 also beating Spain Select 108-64 and Lithuania B Team 120-61. The first two teams were not very good, but China was a good match up. For comparison Auburn lose to Israel who is the #42 team in the FIBA World rankings. China was #29.

We will not recognize out team this year. The best players are all new. Brandon Miller looks like a one and done. He scored double figures all three games averaging 22 per game. He is 6-9 and can play inside or outside. Oaks says he can play every position but point guard. 6-10 Noak Clowny had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Nimari Burnett won the hard hat award. Darius Miles and Mark Sears scored in double figures. Of that group only Miles played last year.

Coach Oats says this team already has a better chemistry than last year's team.

7 Things We Learned from Alabama Basketball's European Tour

Quote
1. Brandon Miller is a special talent
After head coach Nate Oats held an open practice in late July, fans began to rave about what they saw from freshman Brandon Miller.

That excitement has only grown as Miller led the Crimson Tide in scoring in every game. He averaged 22 points, with 17 against Spain Select, 28 against Lithuania B, and 21 against China.

In the second and third games of the tour, Miller emerged to carry a heavy scoring load out of the second-half break and scored in double-digits in both second halves.

His 30 points in an open scrimmage were one thing, but topping 20 in a win over a team of professional basketball players from China proved that Miller is ready to be Alabama's offensive leader and one of the best talents to come through Tuscaloosa in a long time.

The play of the Tide players on the European Tour was impressive. We needed some big men and we may have them now. At 6'10" Clowney could be the real deal, Miller is 6'9", plus Bediako at 7 feet has a year of playing and development under his belt now. I am very interested to see what kind of point guard Sears is, another major area of concern last year. If Quinerly returns healthy it would be an overall major upgrade in the point guard position. Hope all this potential comes out in the season.

We also have 5 star point guard Jaden Bradley who was the #1 PG in last years signing class.
