This is a sad day for Bama fans.  Cecil had a way with words that was unmatched by any other sports writer in my lifetime.  It's an understatement to say he will be missed.  It's an accurate statement to say he can't be replaced.

RIP Cecil.  We miss you already.

This sad because Cecil spoke the true idea of sportsmanship. RTR!

This is tough.  Over the 6-7 years I spent in Tuscaloosa, I was fortunate enough to run into Cecil on multiple occations and situations.   At practices at one point when I had a practice pass (Francione timeframe), at Phil's on the strip, or any restaurant or drinking hole in the area.   At one point I had a friend that lived about a block from him, and we'd regularly see him walking his dog on Friday and Saturday nights.   He accepted a beer from us a time or three on his way back.

He always had willingness to give a couple minutes, even when he probably didn't really "have the time".  We all knew he was busy and were happy with a minute or two.

Cecil was fair, well spoken, and unequivocally the most respected journalistic voice covering Alabama sports for at least the past 25 years.

Finebaum was barely able to get through his show today.

Everyone take a look at Cecil Hurt in September. He looks 85 and unrecoginizable. Go to around the 41 minute time.

Aside from the point of this thread, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I think I met Cecil back in the Shula days.  Very friendly.  It will definitely be difficult to find an adequate repaclement for him.

RIP Cecil...

You're right, Marshall.   His complexion is way off, and he looked "sunken."  I noticed that in some recent pictures that the Tuscaloosa news released after his death.

This one hurt me so much. Growing up in the Tuscaloosa-Northport area, I was practically raised on Cecil's work. Such a talented journalist. There are too few like him anymore.
