Attendance was 12,600 for a Tuesday night game in November against La Tech. Coach Oats has brought winning basketball back to Coleman. The student section was packed.

The Jackrabbits are in big trouble!

I thought they looked pretty good last night.  Lot of potential and depth it seems.

The students are into it, which is great for home court advantage.  Inevitably, they will be absent on some weekends and the holiday stretch between now and the start of start of conference play in Jan, but they'll be back in full force in January again.   We have a very difficult and aggressive out of conference schedule.  We'll have losses going into January, but we should be very difficult to play for the rest of the SEC if we can stay reasonably healthy.

The best news is that Bama should NEVER miss another NCAA tournament under Oats.

HL I agree. I do think with the fast pace we have a chance to win the Big Dance even with all basketball schools playing now. RTR!

Yesterday was National Signing Day. Coach Oats brought in the #3 class in the nation. The highest recruiting class ever by Alabama. It has has two 5 stars, one 4 star and the #1 JUCO power Forward.

Exactly. If Quinerly and Shackelford play like I know they can, we are in the catbird seat. The addition of 5 star guard Davison is a huge plus at the guard spot. Add 7 foot highly recruited Bediako, who was recruited by Duke, Michigan, Baylor (defending National Champs), & others, we look good at the center position. Keon Ellis can play guard or small forward, Noah Gurley a 6'8" forward, along with players like Juwan Gary who comes in and provides instant energy into the team. That's 7 solid guys. Others I expect to see more are possibly Hylton, Rojas, and Miles. Interesting looking season coming for Tide BB. Plus, maybe someone else steps up and gives the team good minutes.

We play the South Dakota State Jack Rabbits tonight at 7:00. SD St is a solid team. They almost beat us a few years ago. They are projected to win the Summit League championship. They did not make the NCAA Tournament last year. They lost in their conference tournament by 2 points to Oral Roberts who made a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. This will be a good early test to help prepare us for the rest of the difficult non-conference schedule.

They are 1-0 having beat Bradley at home 81-65.

That was very entertaining.  Bama won 104 to 88.

I got to watch some of it. Bama blew it open to start the second half. S. Dakota St. was actually a pretty good team.

Looks like S. Ala gave us all we could handle last night, but Bama prevailed with a 73-68 win. I didn't get to watch it but I'd bet money that S. Ala slowed the game down.

We played poorly but got the win. USA had several transfers from Auburn, LSU and other Power 5 teams. They were better than expected but we still should have been able to put them away. It was tight to the end.

Better to win close anyhow. Glad they won.

I didn't get to watch the game, but followed it on my computer.  What I noticed was Bama was behind more than once, but came back.  That is a good sign.

Bama made easy work of Oakland last night 86-59. Oakland had beaten Ok. St. and played WV close, so they weren't exactly chopped liver.

Iona beats Bama 72-68 in the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando. A poor shooting night for Bama.

Coach Oats said coming in that they were a better team than the Iona we beat in the tournament last year.  If that's our worst loss of the year, I'll be awfully happy.

I missed that one.  It wasn't even on the schedule on espn.com, not even as TBD.  It showed the next game was on 12/4 against Gonzaga.  The result is on there now though, along with a game against Miami.  ???  :dunno:

Bama outscored Miami 63-34 in the second half to beat them 96-64 tonight. Record goes to 6-1.

Bama beats Miami 96-64 in Orlando.  If my stats are correct, they were 1 for 11 from the arc in the first half and 15 for 19 in the second half.  They were down by at least 9 in the first half.

This is at least the 2nd game this year that we scored 60+ in the second half.  A lot of years in the past we were struggling to get in the 60's for an entire game.

We play a fast type of BB and hang around the rim all the time. RTR!

Bama has a tough couple of weeks:  Dec 4th  Gonzaga #3;  Dec  11th  Houston  #15;  Dec 14th Memphis #18.

If we can win 2 out of 3 in this schedule we will be in good shape. RTR!

That's a stretch that should tell us if this team is ready to play with some of the big boys.

It all comes down to ball handling and shooting. They still commit too many turnovers IMO, but they seem to do what it takes to win. The last game against Miami, Bama rained threes in the second half like they haven't all year. If they can keep that up, they should do well this year.

Bama beats Gonzaga 91-82. Our guard play was outstanding. The game was tied at 20-20 when Bama took control. We led by 16 at the half and never trailed in the 2nd half. A very good win for the Tide.

That felt like a final four game.  Very intense.

I was really disappointed when the basketball game started and it showed Gonzaga had dropped to #3.  When I looked last week they were ranked #1.  That would have been just perfect!

We beat a good BB team. I listened to some of it and we was pushing that ball. We had a problem fowling. RTR!

Bama beat a good Houston team 83-82 last night. #14 Houston gave us all we could handle. They were a Final Four team last year and their only loss this year prior to last night was against ranked Wisconsin. They were physical and rebounded well. We must do a better job on the boards going forward. We won the game in the paint and from the free throw line. We had good nights from Gary, Shack, Quinerly and Davison, all in double figures.

This was a fun game to watch. It was close the entire game. Two good teams going at it. It looked like a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 game.  Very good win for Bama.

We now have the #1 RBI and #1 SOS according to Warren Nolan.

Those are some high rankings for our BB team. I remember when we couldn't win against a ranked team. RTR!

Kelvin Sampson, the Houston coach, was butthurt because he thought the swat by Davison at the buzzer was goaltending. I saw the replay of that on 'SportsCenter", and it was NOT goaltending. Bama teams hurting a lot of feelings here lately.  :lol3:

It was chaos at the end of the game. Bama was celebrating, Sampson was chasing the refs, and Houston players looked stunned. To my knowledge the two teams or head coaches did not shake hands after the game. If they did, they did not show it on TV.

The Youtube clip below shows JD Davison's slam dunk off a Quinerly miss and Houston's last possession of the game where Shake causes a loose ball, desperation shot, and Davison's swat that Sampson thought was goaltending.  You cannot tell in this video, but the ball was not in the cylinder, and it was a good play by JD.

What I saw that was kind of off guard, was CNO standing there with his hand extending to receive and congrats but noone showed up. RTR!

The other coach was chasing down the officials trying to convince them the last block was goaltending.  I don't know if he came back around later to shake hands.

That is 2 final four teams in a row that we have beaten.  We still have Baylor, the reigning national champs, on the schedule in late January.  The other final four team was UCLA.  We don't play them in the regular season, but that is the team that knocked us out of the tournament last year.

I expect no less than a #1 seed and a final four this year, if we stay healthy.

Anyone watching Bama/Memphis?

Yeah, we got curb stomped by Memphis.  I turned it off when we were woefully behind in the 2nd half.  We lost 92-78.

 Memphis had lost 4 in a row. We were hot. What happened? I went to bed when we were up 14-10.  :dunno:

Memphis fed their big man all night, and he simply laid it in.  We couldn't hit outside shots.  That's about it.

Oh so we got beat. Looks to be the same in BB as it is FB. When we are ranked high up we loss to weaking teams. RTR!

Memphis was a pre-season well respected team. They had a ranking as high as #9 before they stated their 4 game skid. They have signed the top ranted recruiting class 2 of the last 3 years. According to the announcers the upper classmen on the team resented the younger (5 star) players starting and taking their playing time. Their locker room was a mess. They got it all worked out just in time for us.

Enough about Memphis. We must get better. Our big men are soft. We are a poor rebounding team. We have trouble defending physical post players. We defend like we have never seen a pick & roll. Although we beat Houston they exposed the same issues we had with Memphis. Hopefully this will be a learning experience.

We have Jax St and #23 Colorado St left before SEC play starts against #18 Tennessee. The schedule does not get any easier.

BTW, I hate Memphis blue basketball court!

I watched that debacle.  We just looked tired.  It was a perfect storm for Memphis.  They are a very talented team and were trying to salvage their season.  We were emotionally drained after 2 big wins and still physically tired from the last game.

The biggest thing we need to fix is rebounding.  And the fix is easy, more effort!

We caught UT at the right time. They had two starters out with Covid. We struggled most of the game but picked up the defensive intensity and hit some timely shots in the last 10 minutes. A good way to start the SEC season. Gurley played his best game picking up a double/double with 20 points and 10 boards. Quinerly had 18 and Shack 12.

 Bama women playing #7 ranked UT tough, 30-30 in the 3rd quarter.

38-37 going into the 4th quarter, UT leading.

UT coming out strong in the 4th ahead 44-37.  Bama takes a TO.

UT pouring it on now, 56-42 with less than 3 to play.

Ended badly 62-44.

Bama Women beat Auburn 56-53 on Sunday. They improve to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in SEC. The three loses to Tulane, Duke and Tennessee. All good teams.

I missed the game last night thinking it was an 8pm start.   Looking at the stats, it's hard to believe we won by 13.  Most favored Florida, with steals being Bama's only big advantage.

Well CNO on his presser seemed excited by the win. RTR!

I thought the stats were in our favor. We took 20 more shots (72-52). This was due to our 20 offensive rebounds and 13 steals. We led points in the paint 40-26, points off turnovers 21-10 and fast break points 12-5. We shot 84% from the line 16-19 to their 64% 18-28. We dominated the 2nd half out scoring UF 47-31.

Best night of offensive rebounding I have seen in a while.  Didn't count, but it seems we turned the ball over a lot less in the 2nd half.

I guess the stats showed we outworked them.  But we shot a lower percentage from the field (very bad from 3pt (9-32)), made fewer total FTs, had the same total rebounds.

But you're right, on second look, we played hard without shooting well.  That's a great road win.

We only had 12 turnovers total which is good. But you are right, most of those were in the first half.

Bama vs Missouri on SEC network. Starting real sloppy, down 7-0

Good recovery.  9-9.

While it's hard to win conference games on the road in college basketball, today's loss should not have happened.  Missouri did play a better game than they've shown this season, but they were ranked around 240 in the NET rankings.   That loss could well cost Bama a spot or two in seeding come tournament time.

Missouri is an awful team. We had no business losing to them. But on any given day, even the worst can rise up and play over their head, when the  good team they play just doesn't have it. That's what happened yesterday.

Until we learn to rebound and defend the basket in the paint, we will lose more games. We are a good team that is dangerous at times, but we are not an elite team like we were last year.

We had great players last year this year we have players who need to develop into good players. We will probably lose 7 games or more. RTR!

I'm confused about this team.  We beat Gonzaga AND Houston in back to back games, but then we are very sloppy against teams we should beat easily.  There is a lack of consistency in effort.  I think it is a sign of immaturity and guys thinking they can coast against lesser opponents.  If that is the case there is hope they can grow up by March.  Otherwise they might get knocked out in the first round.  But if they make it through that first weekend, look out!  They might make a pretty deep run.

Bama missed many rim shots, especially early that could have changed the game.  They were pretty cold outside the 3 pt arc in the 2nd half.  Defense didn't seem to get to the spot quick enough/

Not sure how we won it. We were 0-15 in 3 point shots in the second half and were in meltdown mode from the FT line until Ellis made both of his at the end. After that, it was hold your breath as LSU got up a 3 point shot at the buzzer. Thank Heavens it didn't drop.

Missouri played us close again. It is like football we are Alabama and we get the other guys best shot. This win helped and I will say this auburn is the real deal. RTR!

Bama has tipped off vs. Baylor and started its brutal three game stretch of #5 Baylor, #1 Auburn and #12 Kentucky.  Baylor is off to a slow start, and Bama is up 15-8 after 7:30 of play.

Bama has played a good game and is up by 11 with 10:00 left.   I didn't expect for them to win this game, but it's going to be a heartbreaker now if they can't hold on.

I gotta say, the old Auburn coach Sonny Smith made a decent point after the game.  He said Oats spent a lot more time trying to coach the refs than his players.  I was pretty frustrated with the zebras myself, but Oats needs to focus on what he can control.

The team showed some nice spirit making a run just after halftime, but they also showed they also laid down and whimpered after Auburn stormed back.  IMO, Davidson still hasn't melded with the team.  He's reluctant to take open shots and just isn't producing the value that he's capable of in his time on the floor.

Well we we need to get right before the SEC tourney or we will dance all the way into the NIT. RTR!

Charles Bediako is maturing into a good post player. He has stepped his game up in the last few weeks. He played 27 minutes against Miss St scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 blocks. He is producing on both ends of the floor. He needs to work on his free throws.

His off ball movement seems to have improved, and the guards are starting to find him cutting when they penetrate.

We are winning some close games. Of, Course that is something we didn't use to do. I wonder how our defense played? RTR!

Much more effort on defense in my opinion, especially in the 2nd half.  Sitting them on the bench if they don't give the effort may have helped.  If we would hustle on defense, we could be dangerous in March.

I'd have to go back and look to be sure, but I want to say about 1/3 through the 2nd half (maybe the 12 min media break), we had an undeniable and effective influx of energy on both offense and defense.  I couldn't tell it was because of a personnel change, but something sure happened in that time out.

Speaking of high energy, Scottie Pippen Jr plays with the energy of 3 or 4 guys.  I have a lot of respect for the son of an NBA All-Star who decides to attend Vandy, sticks with it while they stink, and plays his ass off every game.

I went to the game last night. The 2002 SEC Championship team was honored at halftime. It was good to see Erwin Dudley, Rod Grizzard, Terrance Meade, Kenny Walker, Earnest Shelton and others including Coach Gottfried. I remember that team well. A fun team to watch play. Dudley was SEC POY.

Our overall defensive effort has been much improved the last few games.  I think they are starting to understand what it takes to win.  Good timing too!

OR they understand what CNO told them about either play defense or don't play. RTR!

A disappointing end to the regular season with the OT loss to LSU. A game we could have easily won. Too many turnover and dumb mistakes. We must learn to take care of the basketball.

We will play the Vandy/UGA winner on Thursday in the SEC Tournament in Tampa. A win Thursday pairs us with UK on Friday.

I have heard a lot of excuses why this happen and that. I hope we are not going back to the way things were with the last 2 coaches. RTR!

Davison does not need to be running point in those situations.

NCAA Selection Show is on CBS at 5:00 CT.

In the most recent Bracketology projections CBS has us as a 7 and ESPN has us as a 6. Either is generous for a 19-13 team IMO. The good wins fade as the bad loses mount up. I still think we can be a dangerous team.

We could be a good team and dangerous team but we are to Jeckyl and Hyde team to may much hay in the Big Dance IMO. RTR@

We are a 6 seed in the west and will play the winner of Rutgers vs Notre Dame.

We could win the whole thing, or get blown out in the 1st round.

I enetered the espn brackett I didn't know how to make a bracket. RTR!

Looks like our old group (Crimson Red Sports) is working.  I just rejoined it and applied a bracket.  So it works for 2022.  It didn't ask me for a password, so I guess the old one worked (and accepted me automatically).

I have a feeling it has something to do with playing defense. CNO was on them all year about this. Our offense was hot we could win but if not our defense would lose every game. RTR!

No doubt the defense was inconsistent, Preacher.   They were bad fundamentally in many ways, including ball handling, shot selection and just general direction/purpose ("basketball IQ")
