Title: Urban Meyer to Coach in NFL?
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 03, 2021, 02:05:50 PM
I am very skeptical of this report. The pressure is immense in the NFL and he could have had the Texas job handed to him on a silver platter.

Quote
Urban Meyer reportedly believes he’ll be the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars are likely to move on from current head coach Doug Marrone, and the three-time national champion “expects to land in Jacksonville.”

I’ve always thought Meyers had a lot of dirty players on his teams, especially at Florida, so the NFL might be his cup of tea. I don’t see how Meyers type of offense fits into the NFL. I won’t believe his hiring until it’s announced.

I don't think the NFL liked Saban rather than the other way around... Just ask Manuel Wright...

I'm seeing articles about Mullens from UF being considered for NFL jobs. I bet the UF administration wouldn't object too highly to him leaving.

Here’s some follow-up to your comments.

Quote
Mullen, according to an ESPN report Sunday morning, is telling NFL teams he is interested in the league. Meanwhile, Mullen’s bizarre antics this fall haven’t exactly endeared him to the Florida administration.
Then there’s the fallout from Florida’s first NCAA probation in 30 years.
“The public nature of what happened can’t be ignored,” one source told me.

Quote
That “public nature” is Florida – the university that holds itself above the fray by winning the right way – was last week placed on 1 year of probation by the NCAA for its head football coach not following NCAA rules.
On purpose.

Multiple sources say that point of contention has been exacerbated this season by multiple public moments where Mullen’s antics have put the university in a bad light.

Paul had mentioned before that he considered Mullen to be odd and somewhat ruthless as a coach. He said that a while back.

Interesting.

Quote
“A league source tells PFT that Meyer is looking for $12 million per year,” Florio wrote. “That’s not a crazy number, given the manner in which the market is going. The Panthers gave Matt Rhule nearly $9 million per year when he made the jump from Baylor to Carolina last year. And plenty of NFL coaches are getting paid in the eight figures annually.”

According to SportsLine’s odds, Meyer is a big favorite to land in Jacksonville.
