Title: High School Football
Post by: pmull on August 28, 2020, 09:22:44 AM
We are already in Week 2 of high school football. Since college football has been delayed I hoped there would be some interest in high school football talk.

Only one ranked 7A team played last night and it was my hometown team Austin. #10 Austin beat cross town 6A rival Decatur 63-7. Decatur has dominated this series in the past but Austin has six wins in a roll. Austin has a good coaching staff, facilities and fan/parent support and their program has finally taken off. They are the smallest school in 7A but still have one of the better teams in North Alabama the last few years.

They seem to do well every year. A 63-7 drubbing is pretty impressive.

Austin has done well since Coach Perkins was hired off the Hoover staff 10 years ago.

That is quite a drubbing.  I don't expect that will sit too well with the Decatur folks in a cross town rivalry game.

Decatur's program has been slipping. I expect Decatur Coach Adcock is catching some heat.

Austin still rolling along. Watched a good one on ESPNU last night, between Prince Ave and Rabun County, Ga. PA QB is a Ga commit. The Rabun QB is a SC commit.

Prince Ave came back from a 31-7 deficit to tie the game late in the 4th quarter. Rabun scored a TD on a bomb that sealed the win for them, 38-31.

The night before, I watched IMG Academy play. They have 3 Bama commits. They are loaded.

2, I think you misunderstood my comment. Austin is 8-1 with one non-region regular season game to go against Mountain Brook.

We will open the playoffs in two weeks at home against Region 3's #4 team which I think will be Oak Mountain. Win that game you would expect #2 Hoover. Win again and you expect #1 Thompson. Win that and you are in the Championship game against the Montgomery and Mobile area winner. Took road to the title.

There were not many 7A ranked teams playing this week as they were idle preparing for the playoffs that begin next week. These are the only games/sdcores I could find after looking in several places.

#5 Daphane 21 Spanish Fort 7
#8 Austin 21 (6A #2) Mountain Brook 32
#9 Fairhope 35 Murphy 7

Austin finished the year 8-2 and won 7A Region 4. They will host Birmingham Region 3  #4 seed Oak Mountain next Friday.

Sorry. I am in Mobile and had an early tee time at RTJ Magnolia Grove.

Austin is a force in North Alabama but the Region 4 schools cannot compete with the Region 3 Birmingham schools. All 4 Region 3 schools got wins in Region 4. Austin #1 in Region 4 41-28 loss to #4 Region 3 Oak Mountain was the only game that was not a total blow out.

Auburn was dropping to a knee in victory formation to run out the clock. They failed to run out the clock and had to punt. The punt was blocked and returned for a TD. Thompson recovered the onside kick. Auburn had two (yes two) pass interference calls to move Thompson into reasonable FG range.

It must suck to be an Auburn fan. Second time this week they have loss in Tuscaloosa.
