Title: PGA Championship
Post by: 2Stater on August 05, 2020, 06:01:59 AM
We finally get a golf major this week. Who ya got? I'd love to pick JT, but he usually doesn't do great after a win. Tiger hasn't played enough to be sharp. Koepka showed some signs of life this past week, but I don't think he's there yet. DJ? Forget it.

I'm not crazy about the guy, but I'll go with DeChambeau.  :dunno:

Majors are usually won by guys who can hit fairways better than most, hit it close in approach shots, and putt reasonably well.  (I can hear you now saying:  DUH...)

Everybody's a little "off" right now.  I think we might get a first time major winner.

I think the winner will be: None other than the one with the least amount of strokes. RTR!

I think the big names with be on the top of the weekend leaderboard. I would love to see JT win it or even Mickelson. I am going to go with Koepka. Almost went with Rahm but I prefer to go with the USA.

I'd love to see JT or Tiger win it, but I'm thinking it will be a "lesser" name like Cantley, Simpson, or Berger.  All 3 of those guys have been playing well.

Those guys have been playing well, especially Simpson and Berger. Just don't know how Berger will do on a big stage. Simpson's been there.

I would love to see Tony Finau take it as well. He has the game, but hasn't shown the consistency yet.

I forgot they're playing in San Francisco. It's going to be in the 50's every day. Should be interesting.

Right now, Jason Day is leading at -5. He's done for the day. Tiger is at -3 after 16. Bama's Bud Cauley, and Brooks Koepka finished at -4.

JT is +2 after 16.

The old man beat both of them in the feature group.   Pretty good round by Tiger, and none of them ended up embarrassing themselves.  The new #1 in world rankings playing with the guy who holds the record for the ranking (# weeks and # consecutive weeks) is good TV.

Bud Cauley had a very good round finishing at -4. JT finished the day at +1 as dis Michael Thompson. They both have work to do tomorrow to make the cut.

Anybody see DeChambeau break his driver? He crushed a drive then leaned over to pick up his tee, and the head broke off.  :lol2:

I saw that.  Weird.  Have to wonder if the club was weak for a while and was affecting his drives.  I think Jim N said with the new shaft his drives were longer.

I once had the head break off my 6-iron and go flying about 10-yds.  It was a weird feeling.

Tomorrow the morning/afternoon schedules will flip.  So by end of day tomorrow we should know who is playing well.  Lots of wind this afternoon.

The PGA Championship is getting interesting. Still anybody's tourney. JT got hot for a while but faded on the back nine. He is at -1 and Bud Cauley is at even par.

Tiger was a non-factor and Haotung Li practiced himself out of the lead and maybe out of contention.

DJ had the round of the day, even with a double bogey on his card. He has the lead to himself at -9.

I'll be watching it all today.  :popcorn2:

Somehow this tourney has seemed boring to me, but I'll also be watching today.

Hit fairways and make puts.  Whoever can consistently do that is gonna win.

McB, it does seem to lack something. I'm not a fan of the golf course set-up. Even the course itself doesn't have much appeal to me.

Having said that, I'm too much of a golf fan, and love the majors, so I'm in it for the rest of today. Besides, it's pretty much the only game in town right now.  :lol2:

Edit: It also sucks that there's no fans.

I told Mrs 2 in the early part of the round that I felt like Morikawa would win it. Looks like I'm going to be right.

He definitely won it.  The other guys didn't loose it.  They play well.  Morikawa was better.  Good for him.

Yeah, I agree and was happy for him.   He seems to be a decent guy, and he played his butt off.  To place a drive on a par 4 within 8' with that level of pressure and high stakes...just unreal.

You have to have the unnerve type of attitude to play golf I guess. Just go have fun. RTR!

It helps to have a major played on your college teams home course. Big advantage to know the course that well. Congrats to the young man. He played well and deserved to win. What little bit I know of him he seems like a pretty good guy.
