Title: To Play Or Not To Play...FB This Fall
Post by: McBaman on July 07, 2020, 08:10:49 PM
Sounds like none of the decision makers are sure what to do.  How could they know?

The next 3 - 4 weeks may decide the fate of the season.

"We said from the onset of this pandemic that circumstances around the virus would guide our decision-making, and it is clear recent developments related to COVID-19 have not been trending in the right direction," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement provided Monday to ESPN. "There are important decisions to be made in the coming weeks, and by late July there should be more clarity about the fall season." ...

Hardly a new concept, but behavior of athletes will likely determine their fate.  Unfortunately, football and basketball teams are full of KNUCKLEHEADS who break rules like it's a sport itself.  Can't imagine they'll behave and social distance.  We're in trouble here!

Yeah, once Bama reported 5 players testing positive, followed by Clemson with 23 players, I knew the season was in trouble. I just don't see it happening, at least not on time. What makes it worse is that the deeper the year goes into cooler weather, the more likely it is for another spike to occur.

If we have a shortened season there will always be an asterisk beside the NCG winner. RTR!

Not to worry folks.  Warmer summer temperatures will kill this virus...

Isn't that the claim that someone made at one point?   :dunno:

USC-Bama game cancelled.

Pac-12 went to conf only schedule, following BIG 10 example.  SEC ADs to meet and will consider doing the same.

Notre Dame with no conference scheduled is screwed. Those pompous bastids are paying for their arrogance now.

Just don't see athletes behaving enough for the season to happen.  Think about it; one tests positive and everyone who had contact with him must be quarantined for 2 weeks.

Maybe a few teams within each conference will play.  Maybe a few teams, like U La La will play ANYBODY for money.  But can't see how it happens without a vaccine.

It's looking right now that our lives will never get back to normal until there is an effective vaccine.

SEC ADs decide not to decide....for now.  But IMHO looking bleak...

“The fact that we have seen an increase of cases in the last few weeks across our region is not a positive indicator,” Sankey said. “

I think the best we can hope for at this point is a season in the Spring, with or without fans.

All the stars will sit out a spring season.   The NFL isn't going to delay their draft.

Possibly. Play mid-January through March with a championship in April and they're still done before the draft. Some of the seniors and draft eligible underclassmen may choose not to play. Who knows. Who knows anything about anything right now?

Is it just me or does it seem funny that Covid can't effect teams as long as they only play other conference team?

I think the point is to try to limit travel and hotel stays as much as possible.  Also, the conference can hold all their schools to the same standard, whereas they can't trust the rules for safety that other conferences enforce.

Guys like Trevor Lawrence and Etienne for Clemson would almost certainly sit out.  Najee, Leatherwood, DSmith, DMoses, and Waddle and possibly others for Bama would likely opt out of a spring season as well.  Basically anyone with a 1st round grade.
