Nearly five years ago, former Alabama Football star Kerry Goode contracted ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Today, Kerry sent his best our way as he wanted to share this inspirational letter that he wrote with you.
As we approach Easter while battling the world’s other issues, I believe you will be inspired by Kerry.
I hope you like it (it’s also posted at Kerry Goode ).

“People say you don’t know what you’ve got until it's gone.”
I’d like for you to think a little differently. The real truth is, you knew what you had, you just never thought you’d lose it.”

I never thought I would become paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. The first time I seriously considered the idea was the day my friend and former Alabama teammate( Kansas City Chiefs) Derrick “DT” Thomas was paralyzed in a car accident.

I tried to imagine how he would take it? Go from being a phenomenal athlete and suddenly unable to move a muscle. And the thought of having someone perform all of your daily physical task for you. It was hard for me to visualize his scenario.

Why do we often take for granted the very things that deserve our gratitude the most? We do this with people, our possessions, our freedom and even our health. We take them for granted on a daily basis. Always with the assumption that whenever we need something, it will be there. We fail to realize the true value until they are missing from our lives.

If everything in your life is going well right now, think about the dynamics around you that help to make it great.

My immediate thoughts of DT were, “He would do what he always did. Make the most of a terrible situation. In his own words, “I’ve never met a challenge I didn’t like.”
Now that’s one person that truly lived in the moment.

Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have. Just like you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, you don’t know what you’ve been missing until it arrives.

Appreciate all the things you have in life because you never know when that time will end.”

Thanks to our friend Kerry Goode for this beautiful letter. Let Kerry know that you appreciate him.
