There was speculation that once his contract ran out that he would join Kirby. Looks to be the case.

Surprised Saban didn't see the light and promote him, but he's so good at his job that he would have been hard to replace.  Can't blame him for wanting to be an onfield coach.

#- #- #- it seems all of CNS asst. coaches always leave him at an unexpected moment. Coachran must not be to much of a coach or CNS would have had him on the field. RTR!

I don't know...Just because someone wants to be an on-field coach doesn't mean they are best suited for that.  IMO, Cochran has been really great as a S&C coach/cheerleader.  While I don't know how much X's and O's he knows, I bet Saban does.

Seeing reports of a 3 p.m. team meeting to announce departure.  Cochran was not allowed to address team.  Sounds ugly.

Cochran prolly was dismissed for leveraging his salary.

Is it bad? Yes. Is it devastating? Absolutely not. There are great S&C coaches who will love to come to Bama. I think Saban not putting up much of a fight is telling - I have been saying over the past few years that the injury bug could very well be from the S&C program not evolving. I am appreciative for Cochran's work at Bama, but he can be replaced.

“Scott did a really good job for us here and was a big part of our success, but he was looking for a new career path,” Saban told ESPN. “He wanted to get on to the field coaching and would like one day, I think, to be a head coach. We didn’t really have anything here to offer him along those lines, and Georgia did. I understand him wanting to take on that path.”

When did the injury bug start to biting at Bama?  Was it about the time that Kirby left for UGA?  Or before?

CNS knows more about coaching positions than anyone. He has brought many coaches along their path. I just wonder who will take Cochran's place for our recruits during their down time time here before A-Day. RTR!

Yep. Great motivator.  Maybe not great with Xs and Os.

You have to wonder if Kirby sees things differently, of if he just wanted to get CSC out of Bama.   :tinfoil:

I can see him as a special teams coach.  Also, many people working under him as S&C coach.

I don't see this as a negative beyond possible short-term hiccups with the translation.  The players will have to get used to the new guy, but I'm sure there are plenty assistant S&C guys sticking around to help out with that.  Cochran had become more of celebrity than most S&C coaches around the country, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty others out there just as good as him.

Fresh ideas are often needed to make progress.

I'm okay with it.  UGA got a short-term PR win, but they are getting a rah-rah guy for an on-field coach.  Will he be a recruiter??  What experience does he have with coaching special teams?

I'm afraid special-teams coaches have a short life.  Theirs is a thankless job.

The press is making the loss of CSC as a doomsday loss for Bama.  See the first paragraph on this article:

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2020/03/war-between-nick-saban-and-kirby-smart-getting-spicier.html

Loosing CSC is a hit, but a "major blow..."  I think not.  As this story has played out, it seems to me that CNS came to realize that a change to a more science based approach was needed, and that he wasn't going to get that from CSC.  Time will tell.  But sometimes change is good for an organization and this may be one such time.
