Title: Daytona 500
Post by: 2Stater on February 17, 2020, 07:12:32 PM
Thoughts and prayers for Ryan Newman and his family. After a horrific, fiery crash on the last lap, one of the worst I've ever seen, he was pulled from his car, put on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Denny Hamlin won, but this reminds me of when Michael Waltrip finally won the Daytone 500 for the first time, Dale Earnhart's last race.

 :(

Ryan Newman is in "serious condition" but his injuries are "not life threatening". If you saw the crash this is good news. It was a terrible wreck. Safety has come a long way in NASCAR.

Thanks for the update, pmull. I kept checking the news last night and couldn't find anything out. It's an absolute miracle he's alive. Thank the Lord he will survive this.

No way bumping someone like that is legal.
The driver should be arrested for "wreckless endangerment" or something!

Well when you go do the races you have to expect this. The person who spun him out should be punished. RTR!

Wow...that was my first time seeing the wreck.  Amazing engineering in those cars that anyone could survive that.

I'm not convinced there should be any legal consequences.  Or for that matter, NASCAR consequences.  After watching the video you posted it looked to me like the driver that spun him out was just going low to try and get around him and Newman tried to block him.  That is just racing.

I pretty much quit watching racing after Dale got killed at Daytona. It just seemed the protection was to dangerous. RTR!

How the Daytona accident happened. (https://www.foxnews.com/auto/ryan-newman-crash-how-it-happened)  Just as I expected, there was an attempt to pass, an attempt to block, then a bump that caused an immediate right turn into the wall.  Nothing criminal whatsoever.

Ryan Newman was released from the hospital today. He walked out under his own power with his 2 daughters at his side.
