Title: Alabama Baseball
Post by: pmull on February 15, 2020, 08:20:00 AM
Year 3 for Coach Bo started yesterday with a good 10-0 win over Northeastern. Bama got 10 runs on 12 hits including a double, triple and 2 home runs. Four Bama pitchers combined for the 4 hit shutout.

The two team will play Game 2 at Noon today and Game 3 at 1:00 Sunday.

Northeastern is not a bad program. They play in the Colonial Athletic Conference. They were 28-29 last year and 36-21 in 2018.

I am optimistic that good coaching along with better recruiting will show up in the win column this year.

The freshman class looks very promising!  Bo came into a pitiful situation, and the SEC is loaded.  If he can sniff .500 in conference play he will have done an amazing job.

Looks like Bama has some good young players.  Freshman Owen Diodati had went 6 for 9 in the opening series.  He had 3 home runs, a double, and a triple.  Freshman Conner Prielipp was the opening day pitcher who went 4 innings and gave up one hit.  Soph Conner Shamblin started the 2nd game and went 5 innings giving up 3 hits.  Drew Williamson Soph, picked up from a good year from last year.  Red shirt Soph, Sam Praytor also played well it seems.

They're trying to bring along a lot of young players.   We need the flexibility to be able to play a large platoon of players without getting our skulls crushed in right now.

Almost half our wins are Q1. We are 6-0 in Q1 wins. Only Ole Miss at 8-1 have more.

With that said, we need to proceed with caution. Last year we were 23-3 in non-conference games. We were 7-23 in SEC games. I think we are much better but the proof will be in the amount of conference wins we get.

Title: Re: Alabama Baseball
Post by: pmull on March 08, 2020, 08:50:46 AM
I hate to blame the umps but the guy behind the plate was awful. He had an inconsistent strike zone. It was constantly changing, sometimes during the same at bat. Bama had Coach Bo and one player ejected arguing with him. Both coaches were complaining. Bo was ejected arguing over a strikeout that was actually a foul tip. The replayed showed it and you could hear it. It was not a reviewable play.

Enough with excuses. Our bats have gone cold. We need to get back to scoring some runs. Pitching and defense has been good. We were not going to win them all. We need to win today. We have a big week coming up. We play UAB at Regions Park on Tuesday and SEC play starts next Friday with Missouri coming to Tuscaloosa.

This was the game to break the Tide’s season opening winning streak, but they didn't go down without a fight, figuratively, and almost literally. The Bisons used runs in the first, fourth, and fifth off Conner Shamblin to hold on for the win, with a little help from outside sources. Lets just say that the home plate umpire’s strike zone didn’t quite coincide with the one in the rule book, leading to ejections of Alabama left fielder TJ Reeves and head coach Brad Bohannon. When the crowd figured out who the umpire was, a quick Google search led to the realization that he shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near a baseball field, or many other places. To top it off, he was incredibly bad at his job and arrogant, making the game more about him than the teams trying to play ball. Enough about that, the Tide still needed more than the three hits and two runs that they were able to score.

Anybody know who the ump was?

Is that a rhetorical question?   :dunno:

No. The writer never mentioned his name, but made him seem like a pedophile or something. I was just curious.

This guy right here made one of the worst calls in MLB history. Cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game.

A little info about the poor umpiring in game 2.

Justin Beam (Listed as home plate umpire in game box score)

I watched most of the game online and this guy was awful.
