I wonder who they will get. I wish I could be an auto mechanic or College Coach. RTR!

On PF, they said Butch Jones would be considered, as well.

The Dallas Cowboys' tight end?   Rumors are he wants to coach in the NFL.

Besides, I figured MSU would go for Jason Garrett.

Apparently, there were issues going on at MSU that we hadn't heard about, such as Moorhead losing control of his players because he wouldn't discipline them. Looks like he was a nice guy, but not tough enough.

They're prolly blaming him for the Ole Miss behavior as well.   :lol2:

Not kicking that idiot off the team probably contributed to Matt Luke's demise.

It wasn't even original.  The teams were warned about it before the game.
He's a freshman, so I can see Luke keeping him.
Anyhow, Luke landed at UGA; pretty sweet landing.

Yeah, it surprised me to see him on TV the other night. I had no idea he started immediately.

They're paying him $900,000 at UGA, so I'm sure they want him to earn it!

Moorhead never looked like a good fit to me at Miss St. His 8 wins in his first year was the best ever for a State coach. His 14 wins tied Jackie Sherrill and Mullen for most by a 2nd year coach. However, he took over a program from Mullen that was in very good shape. It was obvious the program was declining. Beating Ole Miss saved his job a month ago. Off the field discipline issues were a problem and a recent on the field fight knocked their starting QB out of the bowl game. I think that and the bowl game loss was too much to overlook and they let him out.

Billy Napier reportedly turned the job down and signed a two year extension at LA-Lafayette. I would not count him out yet. He still has a game to play on Monday.

Mark Hudspeth is another name being mentioned. Butch Jones name was throw around on ESPN yesterday.

Analysts were predicting a banner year Miss. State the year Moorhead took over.  The team had senior, NFL-caliber talent.  So the 8 wins was below expectations had Mullen remained.

BINGO!  Another guy from the Northeast who just didn’t fit in the South or SEC. He’s a Big 10 kind of guy.

Saban was a Big10 guy until he came to LSU.

(Urban Meyer is from Ohio and coached Bowling Green.)

Maybe he can be an analyst for Harbaugh.

He will end up as an assistant on some Big 10 team or head coach of some mid-major team.

It probably had to happen with the lack of discipline that's been reported, but it kind of feels like Ole Miss made a splash with the hiring of Kiffen and MSU is just trying to keep up. The problem is that they're Mississippi State and they're not going to attract a big name coach, and any coach that has success is going to jump to a bigger program when the opportunity arrives. Joe Moorhead was the best they could after all the success and talent Mullen left behind? Who's coming now that will be any better?

Maybe:

Former assistant at Alabama and Clemson Billy Napier (but reports say he has turned down the MSU job)
Florida defensive coordinator Todd Grantham
Austin Peay head coach Mark Hudspeth

MSU is always going to be a tough place to recruit.  Even tougher now with Kiff at OM.  But MSU can be a bowl eligible team in most years.  The next coach has to recruit guys of higher character than what they have now.

Every coach says they will do that.  NONE do.

I remember Ta'Boris Fisher, and Ole Miss player in my class years ago, telling me "a winning team needs some thugs".  His words!

We have thugs on the team at Alabama if you are not sure look at how they respond at times and get the flag after someone else hits them first. I always tried to knock somebody's head off when they picked at me. Guard them on pass plays a lot closer. To me that is the way you pay back. RTR!

I'm willing to watch our DBs again -- next year.
