Title: Bowl Projections
Post by: Catch Prothro on December 08, 2019, 09:24:20 AM
They are predicting Bama v. Michigan in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1

I'd love to see that -- it would be cool to be there.

Yeah, Ohio State is overrated. Clemson will beat them.

Auburn will be playing Minnesota in the Outback Bowl.

None of us will watch it -- it's the same time as the Citrus Bowl.

And the honor of playing in the Birmingham Bowl this year goes to:
Boston College vs. Cincinnati

We actually ended up with a more high profile matchup by getting left out of the NY6. I’d rather play Michigan than Baylor or Virginia. Our game will probably be talked about far more than Florida-Virginia or Georgia-Baylor.

The CBS site listing the bowl games said that Bama v Michigan was the marquee game outside of the playoffs.

Not me.  I wanted to play Virginia, and erase the ACC fantasy once and for all.

Now that we're outside the playoffs we're seeing what many feared: the playoffs ruined bowl games.

At least we have a QB now who will concentrate totally on improving and playing well in the bowl.  No distractions at the Heisman, etc.  His leadership should help us prepare effectively.  Plus, no pressure!

Well, we're going to have some sit out.  No need to focus on the negative.

But we'll have some of the injured back for this game, and we'll have an extended period of practice for the young players and transfers.  And recruits can visit during practice.  Should be fun.

I don't know if the playoffs ruined bowl games.  The playoffs present better games than ever existed in the bowl era.  Plus, once you got past the big bowl games of the past, the Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Orange bowls, the rest of them were mostly unremarkable, unless your team was the one playing.

==================

Glad you've gone positive on the Citrus bowl game. No need to worry about who isn't playing -- better to support those who are playing.

Wait!  I thought they were going to rename that the UK bowl?  Did the Cats make a bowl?

Yes, Kentucky is playing Virginia Tech on Dec. 31 in the Belk Bowl -- a big step up from the Birmingham Bowl.

(SEC didn't have enough bowl eligible teams to make these bottom tier bowls this year.)

Likewise, Independence Bowl (Shreveport) is Louisiana Tech vs. Miami.

I don't think Florida will have much trouble with Virginia.

Georgia v. Baylor could be interesting.  At least Georgia might be able to show some offense -- a power rushing game against a Big12 defense built for passing teams.

Citrus Bowl officials probably threw a big party after the CFP selection process left Alabama and Michigan available for an invite.

I wonder if Chris Peterson stepped down because of Washington and Boise in the bowl game?
How did Florida State rank the Sun Bowl?
I dearly hope CNS scores 70 points on Michigan. Just to let the ranking folks know we ain't no #12 team. RTR!

Good catch on Peterson.  I had not noticed that. He's probably very worried his Huskies will lose to Boise.  Still, I wonder if this is health related, or is it an Urban Meyer type health situation. To his credit, Peterson has not cited health.

Is the Sun Bowl a big bowl?  On the schedule, it's between the Belk Bowl and the Liberty Bowl.  And it's in El Paso -- no one wants to travel there, except that it is sunny and relatively warm this time of year.

According to Wiki, the Sun Belt has tie ins to the ACC and PAC12:

"The Sun Bowl can take any team ranked fourth through eighth in the ACC....  The Pac-12 currently employs the Sun Bowl as its fifth choice, behind the CFP and the Alamo, Holiday, and Redbox (formerly Foster Farms) bowls."
