Title: Alex Leatherwood
Post by: 2Stater on November 25, 2019, 06:12:25 PM
Alex Leatherwood went to Washington HS here in Pensacola. I played golf today and ran into his HS offensive line coach. He said that Leatherwood is projected to be one of the first 15 picked in the NFL draft, but is seriously considering coming back for his senior season because he wants very much to be an All-American.

That would be sweet.

That'd be great if he can learn to not false start during the off season...  :-X

The last time Pro Football Focus (who does a lot of player position grading) did their mock draft (Nov 6), they had Leatherwood going 11th.   They said he'd only given up 5 pressures in 268 pass-blocking plays.

I can't see walking away from an 11 draft pick position to try and become an All-American in college... But what do I know?

That's what I said to the coach, but he said it's been a life-long dream of Leatherwood's to become an All-American.

I won't complain about having his experience/ability returning for next year but...IMO, some dreams are meant to remain unrealized.

Just can’t see him staying. Last years 11th pick in the draft was Jonah Williams of Crimson Tide. He signed a 4 year deal for $4.4 mil a year and a $11 mil signing bonus. Alex would be crazy to pass this up and then get hurt at Bama.

The mock drafts show us losing a lot of talent. Tua, Jeudy, Ruggs, Leatherwood and Willis on the offensive side of the ball. Defensive players include D Moses, Diggs, McKinney and Davis. That is 9 players projected in the first two rounds.

I would have thought Devonta Smith would be a 2nd rounder. I think Jennings is at the 3rd or 4th round level.

Here is the problem. We teach these young guys how to be great and they run off to the nfl. RTR!

Based on that position in the draft, I can’t see him staying.

I saw a recent mock draft that had Leatherwood as the 30th pick in draft. Last years 30th pick got a measly $2.6 mil a year for 4 years with a miserly $5.6 mil signing bonus. Poor kid, I feel his pain.

With Leatherwood returning, if Owens and Wills both decide to come back to that will give us 3 seniors on the Oline.  Lots of experience there...

This is great news from Leatherwood.  I hope he avoids the injury bug next season.
