On TV, Saban seems to be more laid back today.

I saw CNS on the press conference and he got the sports writers a really hard time. I wonder if that means he is scared of what he saw or what? RTR!

I came by the apartments we tailgated last year before the game and no one was there. It was about 11:00 so I thought you went to the softball game. Sorry I missed everyone.

Sorry we missed you.  We were there from about 8:15 until 10:15.  We went to the stadium early to get under the upper-deck protection (out of the rain).

I was impresed with #20 Cameron Latu (redshirt freshman).  He was a 2018 DE recruit, but played Saturday at TE.  He played well.  He may be another Jacobs-like surprise!

We need a TE who can beat LB coverage, and Latu seems like the right guy.  He's big and fast.  Woot!

That's Chech with his hand raised. RE is between Chech and NALT. Methinks he was hiding a bit. The lady on the far right is my middle daughter (Breddy to CRS members).

I've been to plenty of A-Day games.  I'm usually ready to leave early in the 3rd quarter.  I haven't heard the attendance projection, but the crowd looked sparse.  Relatively speaking, of course.  Pre-2007, 20-35k was the norm.

I noticed the crowd on TV too and attributed it to the weather.

Exactly.  Despite a forecast of 20% chance of rain after 8am, it rained like helll until about 9:15.  I'm betting a lot of folks went home or stayed home.

For sure. It stormed most of the morning, complete with thunder and lightning. Plus it was cold up until about an hour before game time. No doubt it kept the attendance down.

We sent a lot of sandwiches to the stadium and didn’t sell many of them. :'(

Sorry to hear that, Phil. I meant to ask you before the game where you were going to be. I would have bought some.

I wasn’t at BDS. We prepare the sandwiches at the store and send them to stadium. We sent about half as many as we sent for games last Fall and don’t think we sold even half of those. We saw maybe a few dozen people in Bama gear in the store after the game, where after real games we’d have the dining room and drive-thru packed out for two hours or more after. Without watching the game or hearing attendance numbers Oncould tell that no one was there.

I can tell you they weren't sold at the concession stand near our seats. The only thing they had resembling a sandwich was a hotdog.

So what exactly is it?

Ask a young player and you might not get much of an answer.

Relentless pursuit of excellence would be an oversimplification, especially when trying to pinpoint an intangible ideal as a guiding principle.

Junior right tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. probably had the best answer this spring:

“Commitment, discipline, effort, toughness, pride and then developing yourself to be relentless for 60 minutes in the ballgame” ...

In case you missed it, QB Layne Hatcher transferred to Arkansas State.  That got us to the 85 limit.

I was looking at that.  Looks like Layne Hatcher committed to Arkansas State last year but received a late invite from Bama, around the time Jalen's dad was talking smack about Jalen leaving, which would have left Bama with two QBs in Tua and M.Jones.  Before the Bama invite, Layne had committed to Arky State, which is where he is transferring.  I think it might have been a one year deal, and something he couldn't pass up.  He redshirted last year at Bama, so he has all 4 years of eligibility at Arky St.  https://247sports.com/college/alabama/Article/Alabama-Football-reserve-QB-Layne-Hatcher-enters-NCAA-transfer-portal-131230323/

David Smith was on the field at A Day. He is a White Hat SEC ref. He calls the A Day game each year since SEC rules does not allow a ref call a game if he has ties to the school.

Nick Saban paused during an on-field interview with ESPN’s Laura Rutledge during Alabama’s A-Day Game this past weekend to watch sophomore Skyler DeLong punt for the Crimson team.

DeLong’s second punt of the afternoon traveled 54 yards in the air and was fair caught by Jaylen Waddle at the 13-yard line. After that, Saban resumed his interview with Rutledge, clearly pleased.

“See, nobody wants to talk about the punter,” Saban said. “But that guy was a freshman last year, aight, and he was like very, very nervous. And he’s gotten a lot better. And people should believe in development. Everybody wants an immediate outcome instead of focusing on what you have to do to get an outcome.” ...

Good stuff. Let's hope he doesn't turn back into Jerry Lewis again when it's game time.

I am guessing CNS knows improvement when he sees it. DeLong must have really gotten better if coach spoke of him. RTR!
