Title: Avery Johnson Officially Gone
Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 24, 2019, 12:28:08 PM
Final negotiations are over and CAJ is done.

“After meeting with Coach Johnson, we made the decision to mutually part ways,” Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne said. “This was not an easy decision, and we thank him for his contributions over the past four seasons. We wish Coach Johnson and his family the very best.”

Assistant coach John Pelphrey will serve as interim head coach until a replacement is named.

Talk about overpaid! Wow. Then Byrne made it worse with extension.

Quote
The 19th-highest paid college coach was paid $3.062 million last year, according to the USA Today salary database released last week. Johnson was hired by then-athletics director Bill Battle -- who attended Tuesday’s NIT loss -- after the job was originally offered to and declined by Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall.

Johnson’s contract was extended by Greg Byrne in August 2017 to run through the 2022-23 season.

Well now somebody needs to get serious about finding a good coach. Not good but lots better or the AD may need to be gone. RTR!

Definitely several candidates out there. What are fans must understand is the guy who gets hired may be unknown and from a small college or 2nd tier program. For example:

Bruce Pearl: Univ. Wisconsin-Green Bay to Tennessee
Coach K: Army to Duke
Bobby Knight:  Army to Indiana
Gregg Marshall: Winthrop to Wichita State
Billy Donovan: Marshall to Florida
C.M. Newton: Transylvania to Alabama

Like I said, don’t be upset if you haven’t heard of the new coach or he comes from a smaller program.

#+ #+ #+, I totally agree with you MD. We need a lot better coach and he can come from a small show who knows how to use team players. CAJ I am afraid got JR a good education and he was not a college coach kind of Coach Mike Shula. RTR!
