Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 11, 2019, 10:52:04 PM
Well, this is an interesting take about bribery & why it's used. Read article.

Allen testified that former Penn assistant, and current first-year Auburn assistant Ira Bowman knew of the scheme, and was subsequently brought into it after Allen was fired by Penn in 2015.

According to Law360.com, after being fired, Allen set up a separate account where Phillip Esformes would wire money, and Allen also gave Bowman a debit card to access the account.

Huge scandal with 50 persons indicted including 33 parents.

Quote
Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were among more than four dozen people charged in a nationwide college admissions cheating scandal that involved wealthy individuals paying up to $6.5 million to place their children into elite universities, according to court records revealed Tuesday.

The alleged scam -- which placed students into top colleges such as Yale, Georgetown, Stanford, University of Southern California, UCLA and the University of Texas -- was run by William Rick Singer, from California, who helped parents get their children's college admission through bribes, court documents unsealed in Boston showed. Officials have been investigating the case, named "Operation Varsity Blues," for more than a year

This is sounding like a comedy. The water polo coach at USC, volleyball coach at Wake Forest, tennis coach at Georgetown, men's tennis coach at Texas, and on & on. What a brilliantly simple scam. Bribe coaches of low level, almost invisible programs to get your kid in the college.

Others charged in the case are:

John Vandemoer, 41, the head sailing coach at Stanford University

Gordon Ernst, 52, former head coach of men and women's tennis at Georgetown University

Ali Khoroshahin, 49, the former head coach of women's soccer at USC

Laura Janke, 36, former assistant coach of women's soccer at USC

Jorge Salcedo, 46, the former head coach of men's soccer at UCLA

Michael Center, 54, the had coach of men's tennis at the University of Texas at Austin

Martin Fox, 62, president of a private tennis academy in Houston

So I suppose you guys know that one of the folks involved was the "College Admissions Prep" guru at IMG Academy.  He was taking tests for students @ $10k a pop.  IMG has put a lot of kids in the SEC the last few years, including many highly ranked recruits at Alabama.

There are at least 3 players on the team last year from IMG, including Dylan Moses (only his last season or two after transferring from University Lab in Baton Rouge).  Two more coming in this year - our 5-star OT Evan Neal and 5-star RB Trey Sanders.

Keep your fingers crossed!!!
