Title: Bama softball
Post by: 2Stater on February 09, 2019, 06:08:56 PM
Jamos and Mrs J were in Troy today watching the ladies play Maryland and Murray State. He was kind enough to text me updates. Bama beat Maryland 10-0 in a mercy rule game then came back from a 10-7 deficit in the last inning to score 9 runs and beat Murray State 16-10.

Yesterday, they swept also, beating Murray State 12-0 and Troy 7-1.

Off to a good start.  #+

Thanks 2 and Jamos.  I tried to follow on game tracker today, but I believe it was the worst game tracker I've ever tried to use. You absolutely could  NOTeven have a clue as to what was going on.  The games were streamed yesterday on the U of A facebook page but with video only. That was much better than the game tracker today.

Your welcome Leewillie. I hope the team can continue hitting this year. That was the glaring weakness last year.

It was fun getting back on the diamond to watch the ladies yesterday, it was a fun trip. I was impressed with the Troy campus, they have nice sports facilities which included a golf practice area for their team. The girls played hard yesterday, especially the second game, and came away with a hard fought come from behind win. It will be interesting to see how much that game will will help the team as the season progresses, the bats really woke up after giving up a good lead in the 6th inning. The newcomers this year seem to be falling right into place on the team, they seem to have been well coached during their high school years. One noticeable thing about the team this year is they have have five pitchers, something that I have never seen at Bama. We saw all of them pitch yesterday in the two games and they all have some work to do to get ready for the SEC, there is no Osorio in that group. I thought the newcomers looked good with their bats as well as with their gloves, this might be the best group of freshmen I've seen Murph get, hitting and defensive wise. Anyway, we know what we have now and what is needed to get ready for the SEC, there is work to be done but I think this team can and will improve as the season goes along. We will need to score some runs to support the pitchers but I think our bats can do this.

Thanks for the update, Jamos.  I was a little concerned with the lack of strikeouts by our pitchers.  Based on your comments, it doesn't appear we have a true ace in the group.  Do you think it will stay "pitch by committee" for most of the year?
