Title: Football season is not over
Post by: 2Stater on February 08, 2019, 06:41:41 PM
The 'Alliance of American Football League' games kick off tomorrow. Memphis Express at the Birmingham Iron kicks off at 7 PM on CBS. Birmingham is loaded with Bama players (10) including Blake Sims and Trent Richardson. Here is the roster:

Should be interesting.  :popcorn2:

Edit: I saw this announced on the Mobile station. The game tomorrow night is actually Atlanta Legends vs Orlando Apollos. Looks like the Birmingham game is Sunday at 3 PM.

The rules should be interesting and move the game along much quicker. No TV tome outs, No extra points and no halftime.

Just found out the game is only on CBSSN. Regular CBS is airing the AT&T Pebble Beach golf tournament. I'm so torn.  :(

I tried to watch the Pro-Am yesterday.  Beautiful scenery, but dull golfballing.

About 10 people tied for the lead after today, including Phil and Spieth.

Cool.  Definitely watch worthy now.

World Football League meets Arena Football?

I haven't read the rules or anything.  It seems like every so many years we get a new football league for those who miss football in the off season.  It usually lasts a year or two then disappears.

I rarely even watch NFL.  So I should watch NFL rejects?

I do appreciate that BHM has a team with former Bama players.  One Birmingham professional football team was very good, as I recall, except they didn't pay their players.

Tonight they're showing the Atlanta not-Falcons vs. Orlando not-Magic.

CP, it's a developmental league, like a MLB minor league team. I don't know where the financial backing is coming from, but it's not expected to be a competition league like the XFL hoped to be.

Except I'm noticing several players who are former NFL players.

Not sure I understand what you mean by "competition league like the XFL hoped to be."  Do you mean that the XFL hoped to eventually compete with the NFL?  Certainly that was a pipe dream.

Saw some pretty hard knocks in early AAFL coverage.  Do they not have targeting rules?

I posted XFL and I meant USFL. I'm dating myself.  :lol2: Yes, the USFL definitely intended to compete with the NFL. One thing that surprised me was that there was a halftime, when I had heard there would not be.

Does anyone still remember the:

Birmingham Americans
Birmingham Vulcans
Birmingham Stallions
Birmingham Fire
Birmingham Barracudas
Birmingham Thunderbolts

(or the Alabama Outlawz)?

The new Birmingham Iron probably has the best name, that or Birmingham Fire.

B'ham wins 26-0. Disappointed that Blake Sims didn't play, but Trent looked pretty good, especially late. Congrats to the Iron.
