Title: Alabama vc Ole Miss in Basketball Tonight-Tuesday
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 22, 2019, 02:33:36 PM
Big, big game for Tide & Avery Johnson. I'm getting concerned about the play & coaching at Bama. We look flat and/or discombobulated in too many games. We beat Kentucky, nearly beat now #1 UT, but lose to Georgia State in T-town & get clobbered by Northeastern. WTH is going on? Johnson is in his 4th year, this is his team & players. Tonight we play #20 Ole Miss with a first year head coach, Kermit Davis, in T-town. Time is getting short for Avery Johnson, Rick Barnes is in his 4th year & has UT at #1. Ben Howland at Misses State is in his 4th year and has MSU at #22. Like I said, this season is still very savable for the Tide, but Avery Johnson better start coaching his players up. Would love to hear from my fellow fans.

Ole Miss tried to intimidate Tide BEFORE the game and coaches & refs had to separate teams. Refs gave stern talking to the team captains. Petty hits 3, 17-9 Tide. Galin Smith, 6'9" forward for Tide playing good, too.

Tide play is fluid with defense and diverse scoring. Petty has hit 2 3 pointers and 2 layups. 26-16 Tide & Petty has 12 points already.

Tide coming at OM from all directions, with Petty, Hall, Jones, Norris, Lewis scoring in different ways.
36-26 Tide, timeout.

42-26 Tide  Half. Complete team effort by Tide, only 4 turnovers, but 9 by OM resulting in 13 points for Tide. Nine offensive rebounds by Tide, 3 by OM. We are 5/12 for 3 pointers which is excellent. Now, can we maintain the fast pace of this game and stay under control?

Tide leading 63-37 with 7 minutes left. Tide has looked solid all game with hustle, defense, good ball handling, and balanced scoring. Tide has only 7 turnovers, OM 16, 15/20 FT shooting (75%0. 68-41 Tide.

If only the refs saw it that way.  I'll give you an e-cred for the laugh anyway, Pappy.

I watched most of the game, but I'm not going to tell you I watched every possession intently for both teams.  Before the gap got big and the game got sloppy on both sides, I did think that Bama played with more purpose and had better ball security than normal, two things that are lacking most games.  I'm not sure that Ole Miss was ready to put up a fight though.  Something definitely looked off for them tonight.  I hope it was just our dominating play, but not sure I believe that.

It's a good win against a top 25 team either way.  If we can keep from laying an egg against a very mediocre (or possibly even below average) Baylor team on the road this weekend, and take the game against Miss St at home next mid-week, we will be ahead of the curve for this rough 5-game stretch, even if Auburn wears us out next weekend on the road.  That TN loss definitely isn't going to hurt us.

A very good win against a Top 20 team. We have played a good three game stretch beating Missouri on the road, played hard with a near miss against UT in Knoxville and a dominating win last night. CAJ teams have always started strong and get better as the season progresses. I do not know why he cannot correct that but it has been that way all 4 years. I hope we are hitting our stride.

We have a difficult trip to Waco, TX Saturday morning to play Baylor.

Sounds like we played really good and shot FT's for a change. Our FT's from what I have read on here usually is what hurts us. RTR!

If we have beaten KY, and played TN to a draw almost, and beat OM does that put us up for the Big Dance right now? RTR!
