I think he's tired and flat worn out after 20 years as a head coach. No fire in his belly and too many collapses on the field at UGA & Miami. Seems like a decent man, wish him well.

He had a fertile recruiting ground in Ga, so he had the talent. He just never had the control or discipline that he needed for his teams.

I think the handwriting was on the wall in Miami. His recruiting class imploded on ESD, then Wisky curb-stomped them in the bowl game. I think he felt this was his only option.

I like and respect Coach Richt. I hate to see it end this way but MD nailed it. He is tired and wore out. He might should have taken some time off after resigning at UGA rather than jump right into the Miami job.

List includes:

Butch Davis
Lane Kiffin
Mario Cristobal
Rex Ryan
Greg Schiano
Kliff Kingsbury

B. Davis-No way, he's 67 years old & got them on probation in his last job there
L. Kiffin-Still an unknown and too over-the-top & controversial
K. Kingsbury-All offense, no defense
R. Ryan-All defense, no offense, no way
Greg Schiano-Too much baggage from Ohio State & Urban Liar?

Mario Cristobal-I think he's the pick

Another name added is Mark Stoops at Kentucky-Is this his agent dropping hints to get Stoops a fat pay raise?

None of the above according to this:

Seems like an odd choice to me.

The 25th Head Coach of the Miami Hurricanes: @Coach_MannyDiaz

https://hurricanesports.com/news/2018/12/30/diaz-named-university-of-miami-head-football-coach.aspx

Quote
- Diaz has not been a HC in his career, needs experience
- Defensive minded, UM finished with the 2nd OVR ranked offense
- Need someone focused on offense, UM finished with the 92nd ranked OVR offense
Manny Diaz was hired as Temple’s coach earlier this month. A few weeks later, kids signed LOI’s with Temple.

Today, he left Temple and rejoined Miami as HC

I'm not impressed. They had the 2nd ranked defense but were 7-6 for the season. I could be wrong but this just does not ring as a good hire. I could be wrong & he could be a great coach. Time will tell.

I've heard that Diaz' buyout from Temple, where it accepted the head coaching job on December 13th is about $4Million. I'm guessing that Miami will be paying that for him which adds to his compensation maybe?

Well he is a defense minded coach and defense is how you build championship teams. RTR!

Diaz might be the only reason Miami looked decent under Richt.  Miami's losses weren't due to uninspired defensive play.

Besides, Miami had to find a hire quickly, before NSD, with limited options.  Diaz is someone they know well.
