I'll be posting updates from my trip here over the next few days.

I left work at 11:00 PM last night, and I'm going back in at 7:00 this morning. Somewhere around 2:00 this afternoon my co-workers and I will load up a rented Camry and head south.

I just scolded my executive director for coming out of the office and serving guests because we can’t leave until he finishes making next week’s schedule.

Hey bamaphil, congrats on your trip. May the Lord keep you all safe in your travels. Keep us updated on how many people you have to pray for because of their driving habits,  :lol: :lol:. BTW bring some of that warm weather back with you.  :clap:, RTR!

I know I did last time I went to the Orange Bowl. 

We’re into Florida. Even in the dark, the damage left by Hurricane Michael is stunning.

They have these vehicles now called SUV's and they are roomier and comfortable. They have air conditioning, too. Toyota makes them, also.

I didn’t choose the vehicle. I’d have gone with something a little bigger if I’d had a choice.

What area were you traveling through, Phil?

We crossed into Florida on Highway 231 south from Dothan. There were still piles of trash on the side of the road in places, and large areas of forest were wiped out. It reminded me of my first visit to New Orleans about a year after Katrina. I hit a point south of Hattiesburg and suddenly the trees were gone or snapped in half.

We made it to my director’s in-laws’ house. (Did I mention that in addition to free tickets and transportation we have a free place to stay?) 4:45 local time, 14.5 hours of travel time. The trip was largely uneventful, but we did pass a couple of pretty bad wrecks.

Feeling very grateful for everything about this trip. But I’m exhausted.  :yawn:

So the downside to staying in a stranger’s house is being woken up by a large dog licking your feet.

I'm glad you starred this thread.  We'll all enjoy reading about your trip.  I hope you're sitting in a half-full stadium come the 4th quarter, with all the Sooners having left in despair.

As you can see if you’re watching Game Day, it’s an absolutely perfect weather day in Miami. The high is supposed to be 83 with a low of 71. The game shouldn’t be affected by weather in any way.

We’re on our way to the stadium now. We stopped at a roadside stand for key lime milkshakes and I spilled some on my white shirt. So I’ll have a green stain on the front of my shirt the rest of the day/night.  :wall:

At the Stadium now. Easily 3-1 Bama to Oklahoma fan ratio so far.

Inside now. We’re on row 15 right on the Oklahoma end zone goal line. I just stood about 3 feet from Coach Saban as he walked into the tunnel.

We couldn’t ask for better football weather. Skies are clear, and the temperature is nearly perfect.

Tua is out on the field. He looks fine. No limping, and he just did a spin move.

Ecred!  I HATE orange.  IMO, nothing looks good in orange except for Hooter's girls and not all of those do...

Nope. Stayed to the very end, and cheered the players and coaches as they left the field. I even caught an orange from the trophy that someone threw.

Hurts got the loudest cheer of all the players coming off the field. And he spent more time than anyone else acknowledging and thanking the fans.

Najee walked off the field before anyone else and did not celebrate with the team. I don’t know the young man, but it does appear he’s not happy.

Want to sell it??

We ate lunch at a Cuban restaurant on the way out of Miami. I ate the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Shredded, seasoned pork with onions, plantains, and cilantro sauce in a French baguette bun. It was Heavenly.

There are some great Cuban restaurants down there, especially in Little Havana.

I'm here with the entire family, eating kale!!   :lol2:

I might need to a kale for a week after this trip. I started eating healthier a couple of years ago and pretty well stuck with it until the last month - with this trip capping it off. The holiday season with all its food and seasonal treats while working six day, sixty hour weeks has not been great for my health and fitness.
