Title: PLAYOFF PRACTICE REPORTS

Watch Tua during Friday's practice.

Also Friday:
Outside linebacker Terrell Lewis was spotted going through individual drills. Lewis, who underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in July, looked agile. Lewis returned to practice Nov. 26.

Left guard Deonte Brown, who has been battling turf toe and missed part of the SEC championship game after being hurt, was seen practicing.

Watch Tua during Friday's practice.

Great video. He was bouncing up and down on his toes and showed no pain. When he was set passing, it didn't look like he was pushing off on his ankle, but using all arm. I hope hscoach sees this and give his opinion.

Watch Tua during Friday's practice.
Thanks.  Still recovering obviously, but it's good to see Tua on his feet.

Jalen wearing no tape and looking more nimble -- with compression supports on his ankles I think.

I'm guessing Tua was told not to push off that foot. Still got a two full weeks to heal.

Really good news about Terrell!

I don't think we were watching the same video.  Tua clearly was guarding against pain.  And he was throwing off one foot.  I didn't see much "bouncing up and down on his toes" either.   ???

One thing I am very proud of is to see Terrell is back practicing. We have a good defense but if we would have had him all season our defense would have been a great amount better. RTR!

What's up with Eyabi Anoma??  Not at Monday's practice, and CNS gave some cryptic comment.

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2018/12/why-eyabi-anoma-wasnt-at-practice-for-alabama-monday.html

— Tua Tagovailoa was again practicing and again moving around better than you’d expect from someone who suffered a severe high ankle sprain two weeks ago.

— Freshman outside linebacker Eyabi Anoma wasn’t present during the media viewing period.

— Outside linebacker Terrell Lewis was again going through drills.

— Left guard Deonte Brown, who has been dealing with a turf toe injury, was practicing.

Eyabi Anoma was back after ...what ... Saban characterized as a “personal day..to sort some things out"...

Tua Tagovailoa looked mobile and agile ....

Deonte Brown was seen. As of Monday, the left guard was not 100 percent as he continues to deal with turf toe, according to Saban.

Wednesday practice Dec 19th:

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2018/12/alabama-practice-report-tua-tagovailoa-notes-scout-team-numbers.html

-- Tua Tagovailoa ... did some footwork drills that put stress on the ankle and the quarterback appeared to handle it all well.

-- Tua said he wasn’t yet cutting on his injured ankle but planned to be 100 percent by the Orange Bowl ...

-- It was interesting watching Mike Locksley leading Alabama’s offense. The new Maryland head coach certainly had a busy day as his Terps sit at No. 79 in 247Sports’ composite of recruiting rankings with six players who signed Wednesday.

I admire Locks for staying with us through the playoffs. It can't be easy having to have two different jobs on your mind at the same time.

I read some stuff about Locksley that I truly admire. He could have gone after 3 of our recruits, that he had good relationships with, but told them to honor their commitment to Bama. That's taking the high ground.  :worship:

Thursday Dec 20th (final practice before break):

https://rolltide.com/news/2018/12/20/alabama-football-holds-final-on-campus-practice-prior-to-capital-one-orange-bowl.aspx

The Alabama Crimson Tide held its final practice prior to the holiday break on Thursday, working in a brief morning session at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility.

Thursday's practice was the seventh and final bowl practice in Tuscaloosa before the holiday break and one of 12 practices overall prior to the College Football Playoff Semifinal against No. 4 Oklahoma in the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Not much info available from that practice.   :dunno:

Wednesday before Orange Bowl (Dec 26th):

Lester Cotton took reps with the first team offensive line at left guard.

DE Isaiah Buggs (hyperextended knee) had a wrap on his left knee but was moving better than he was in the SEC championship.

OLBs Terrell Lewis and Chris Allen were both dressed and participating in drills. Miller and Anfernee Jennings were first in drills, followed by Jamey Mosley, then Lewis, Jarez Parks, Allen, Eyabi Anoma and Cameron Latu...

Addendum: Okie Practice
Both Kyler Murray and leading receiver Marquise Brown were practicing, The Norman Transcript and others reported. Murray missed Wednesday morning media interviews in which he was scheduled to attend. An Oklahoma official said he was “under the weather.” Brown went down with a lower-leg injury Dec. 1 in the Big 12 title game and his status for Saturday remains unclear.

I saw a video on ESPN of Kyle practicing yesterday.  He must have the flu.  But he was out there trying.

BTW, the Miami forecast is good for Saturday; high 80/low 72 and no rain.

Thursday - final practice before playing Okie:

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2018/12/alabama-practice-report-tide-finalizes-preparations-before-cfp-semifinal.html

— With Deonte Brown suspended, Lester Cotton continued to work at left guard with the first team. The senior started the first eight games this season.

— Cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis was spotted stretching and doing jumping jacks with the defensive backs. The freshman cornerback tore a ligament in his right knee during pregame warmups before Alabama’s victory over Arkansas State on Sept. 8 and hasn’t played since.

Addendum:
CNS quoted as saying Deonte Brown is 'done for the season'.

Terrell Lewis and Chris Allen continued to practice with the outside linebackers, though they won’t play in this game.

Trevon Diggs is not practicing. He remains on schedule in his rehab and is with the team but is still out for the season.

 :dunno:

Compared to last year, this team is in near perfect health. Two years ago we lost the heart and soul of the defense in Eddie Jackson. Last year the entire LB unit was wiped out. I'd rather have Diggs than not, but I'll take where we are.

And with a chance to be the first team ever to go 15-0, an argument for 'Best of All Time' is still on the table.

Jalen just announced that he is enrolled in grad school at Alabama. It looks like he is coming back for his senior year.  #+

Coach Enos had a lot to do with that with the way he enabled Jalen to improve so much, I bet. All the love from the fans didn't hurt, either. Plus, the team will be chasing another SEC/National Championship in 2019.

And the two incoming QBs will have a year in the system to learn and develop without worrying about competing for the starting job or QB2 spot.

Jalen hasn't said he's staying at Alabama, has he?
He can register for grad school, then transfer.
Just waiting for a definitive statement from him.

He did not say he was staying. He told reporters interviewing him to not assume he was transferring and he had enrolled in Graduate School. His major will be Sports Management.

I found this:

Quote
What does it mean?

It means that Jalen Hurts has applied to graduate school at Alabama. That’s GREAT news! It doesn’t mean, however, that he can’t apply elsewhere and it doesn’t lock him in at Alabama -BUT- it is the best sign we’ve had that #2 might actually be back in Tuscaloosa next year👍🏼

Be happy about it now and be happy for Jalen if he does end up deciding to transfer after all, Alabama Nation. 😊 #2 has more than earned our love and respect, regardless. ROLL TIDE!

Well I only see 2 numbers here in the fight for the QB job. Tua-.5 and Jalen .5 for #1. RTR!

Looks like Miller intends to give it a try.  Hope he can contribute.
More worrisome are Jennings, Buggs, and QW -- all with nagging injuries.

Lordy, we are about to play a team that is as good as we are and injuries are not needed. I know Clemson and the ACC teams but they have beaten us with Dabo in the past but we are gonna have to play 60 minute football to win this one. RTR!

Wednesday before the natty:

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2019/01/alabama-practice-notes-on-tua-tagovailoa-injured-lbs.html

-- Tua Tagovailoa was wearing a wrap on his left calf that wasn’t spotted in previous practices. ...

-- Linebacker Terrell Lewis was not spotted with his group in the two periods of viewing...

-- Starting outside linebacker Christian Miller was off to the side but fully dressed for practice...

-- For a second straight day, Anfernee Jennings was also dressed out but watching outside LB drills during the media viewing period.

-- None of the quarterbacks were (Chech edit: WAS) wearing a No. 16 scout team jersey, though early enrollee Paul Tyson had previously mentioned the possibility of playing that role. He stands 6-foot-5 just like the Tigers’ freshman passer....

Thursday before the natty:

https://collegesportsmaven.io/alabama/bamacentral/practice-report-alabama-continues-to-gear-up-for-clemson-8QJMjmFH7UCWzLtRtFAqOQ/

- The protective sleeve that sophomore quarterback Tau Tagovailoa wore the day before was absent ...

- Senior linebacker Christian Miller (hamstring) was again dressed, but limited while wearing a support...

- Terrell Lewis, who is coming off a torn ACL, was not at practice. Sophomore Christopher Allen, who had a similar injury and surgical procedure, was, but isn't expected to play against the Tigers.

Saturday - 2 days before the natty:
https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2019/01/alabama-practice-report-wr-coach-absent-but-expected-back.html

— Outside linebacker Christian Miller continued to wear the support strip on his injured left hamstring. He appeared to be limited in individual drills but was seen participating.

Dylan Moses continued to work with the inside linebackers, although he acknowledged that he has spent time with the edge rushers in wake of the injury to Miller.

— Outside linebackers Terrell Lewis and Chris Allen, who each suffered major knee injuries in the summer, were active in individual drills even though neither defender is expected to play Monday.

— In what was the last full college practice of his career, Damien Harris helped conclude the team’s flex period by announcing the start of individual drills and racing off to the section of the field designated for the running backs...

Not mentioned in this report, but the WEATHER may be a factor in the game.  Very soggy field and chance of light rain all day:

The Bay Area will be SOAKED with rain this weekend ahead of the national championship game Monday night.

If you’re traveling out to Santa Clara, California for the big game, prepare for some soggy, windy weather!  Only scattered showers are expected Monday night. Kickoff is shortly after 5 PM Pacific time (8 PM EST), and most of the rain should be exiting the area by then. Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s for the entirety of the game.

Well, if both teams practiced at home, outside any, then they'll be used to those conditions.

The wind would be a major factor.  Yesterday (Saturday) the wind howled at 40mph gusts.  Not expected to be that bad on Monday night.  But that damp, cold weather stinks for WRs and PLAYERS WITH NAGGING INJURIES, especially Christian Miller, Jennings, QE, and Butts.
