Title: Kira Lewis Jr. Leads Alabama Over Murray St 78-72
Post by: pmull on November 27, 2018, 06:01:11 AM
A sloppy game. Too many turnovers. We lead by 13 in the first half, 10 at the half and by 8 late but let Murray St hang around. MS is a consistent tournament team. They won their league and was a # 12 seed last year. This was a good win for a team still trying to find themselves.

Freshman Kira Lewis is why we won this game. He hit one clutch shot after another to stop Murray St runs. Lewis and Petty made free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

The Alabama men's basketball team battled hard down the stretch to outlast Murray State, 78-72, Monday night in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (5-1) knocked down eight consecutive free throws over the final 25 seconds to hold off the Racers (3-1).

Freshman Kira Lewis Jr. led Alabama with another 20-point performance – his third of the year – and sophomore John Petty added 16 of his own. The Crimson Tide continued to improve its free throw percentage by shooting nearly 77 percent while knocking down 23-of-30 attempts.

Murray State was led by preseason OVC Player of the Year Ja Morant who knocked down 38 points on 16-of-29 shooting from the floor.

"We weren't very sharp in terms of taking care of the basketball," head coach Avery Johnson said. "But overall, I'm proud of the way our guys fought through adversity to finish another game against a really good NCAA tournament-caliber team

Well done. Our players that are winning games are young. I hope we keep them for a long time. RTR!

I followed the game as best I could while at work. Murray State’s Morant was unreal to watch. He kept MSU in the game. Bama was sloppy. We have a group of talented individuals that haven’t learned to play as a team yet.

Good to see Bama probably won't lose a game on FTs this year.

Has Donta Hall disappeared this year?

Has Donta Hall disappeared this year?

The short answer is YES. He had 2 points in 21 minutes last night. We went with a small line up most of the game to offset the speed of the smaller Murray St players.

It was a sloppy game but they found a way to win, a big improvement for Bama basketball. Their bad ball handling was what kept the game close but the positive was they made their free throws to seal the win. It wasn't long ago they were doomed if the game depended on their free throw shooting.

Donta Hall? He seems to be really out of sync with the style and pace of play right now but that can change and hopefully it will and soon.

Riley Norris is suited up again and hopefully we will see him on the floor again real soon.

Trevor Releford was at the game last night, he is still playing European ball.

Thanks J. Good to hear, especially about Norris.
