He complained to trainers about having a headache and collapsed soon after. The Atlanta native was rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition. "It was just a football play," Reed said Sunday morning on his coaches radio show on WNSR 560-AM/95.9-FM. "He was taking on a block and it wasn't anything malicious or dirty or anything like that. It is when the brain swells as a result of the impact and pushes against the skull. Surgery often entails removing the hematoma/contusion and allowing the swelling in the brain to subside. The flap of skull removed during surgery may or may not be replaced (immediately) depending on the swelling.
The fact that the swelling is going down is a good sign. Or, something else? Nobody seems to know. His coaches said they reviewed the game film and could see no specific hit that led to his injury. Christion walked to the sidelines complaining of headache, then collapsed. He never regained consciousness. He was studying one evening when he developed a terrible headsche, got dizzy and was able to dial 911 before he passed out. He was rushed to a hospital in B’ham for emergency surgery. Come to find out he had an aneurysm. The good news he lived through it but has permanent disabilities. Wonder if this happened to Christian?
