Title: PRACTICE REPORTS
Post by: Chechem on September 18, 2018, 05:47:37 AM
Monday after Ole Miss:

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2018/09/alabama_practice_report_crimso_4.html#incart_river_index

No major injuries coming from the Ole Miss game, but a few players are hurting.  "Anfernee Jennings appeared limited, standing off to the side as the Tide's other pass rushers went through a drill..."

"Tua Tagovailoa looked fine. It was reported by ESPN that Tagovailoa was suffering cramps in his calves during [the OM game]..."

"Henry Ruggs III had his left hand and wrist wrapped..."

No update on Mack Wilson.  He was injured again during the OM game.  Mack needs time to heal.

I hope Mack can play some vs. aTm.  We will need him at times in the game.  After this week, he can sit out the next two weeks if needed to get himself healed.

TUESDAY PRACTICE before A&M:

https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2018/09/alabama_practice_report_a_few_14.html#incart_river_index

"Anfernee Jennings was with the outside linebackers group, but for a second day in a row, he was watching a few drills to the side."

"Nickel back Shyheim Carter had some extra wrapping on his right hand. He was with the first team."

Not many details provided today.  Mack wasn't mentioned.

I do not think Mack is hurt. No mention of it anywhere. He did not come back into the Ole Miss game because he was not needed and we are trying to build depth by getting some young guys playing time.

I did find this on Mack: https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/alabama-football/no-time-off-mack-wilson-already-on-to-texas-am-right-after-win-over-ole-miss/

Shyheim Carter had his right hand heavily wrapped...

Jerome Ford wore a brace on his left knee... (he played late in the OM game)

Defensive linemen Johnny Dwight and Stephon Wynn each were equipped with knee braces..."

-- Matt Womack, the starting right tackle last season, was working with the second team after returning from his broken foot. He was dressed out and on the sideline for Saturday's game with Texas A&M. Jedrick Wills remains the first-team right tackle.

-- Dylan Moses was out there practicing with the middle linebackers. On Monday he said he was still a little sore from hitting the fence next to the end zone Saturday. It was mostly muscle pain, he said. After getting up Saturday, Moses was holding his lower back...

Glad Dylan was back.  I really thought he'd broken something in that tumble against the wall.

It wasn't to help the shoe/cleat, it was to give his foot some more support/rigidity.

Exactly right.  I've been wearing a compression sleeve on my left foot for about 6 months now while my foot heals up (it is getting much better).  It seems a sleeve/tape around the foot might be more effective than taping the shoe for a foot injury, but you see players tape up shoes all the time to limit any flexion.  Perhaps his injury itself has mostly healed but he lacks some strength in the foot for planting, etc.  The shoe tape would make the shoe/foot one stable unit.

Methinks our Preacher took it literally, confusing the word "cleat" for the projections on the bottom instead of the shoe itself.

Left guard Lester Cotton, who from what I've heard suffered a minor injury (sprained ankle) during practice on Tuesday, was out at practice but wasn't participating in drills. Deonte Brown was the first-team left guard. With Brown working with the first-team, the two second-team guards were Josh Casher and freshman Emil Ekiyor...

Tua Tagovailoa, who banged up his knee (sprain) during the win over Arkansas, was again participating in drills...

Could happen.  So far, every team Bama has played has chosen to stop the run and make the QB win with his arm.  That was how they played Bama with Jalen at QB.  They haven't stopped Tua, but that hasn't stopped them from playing run stop defense -- yet.

That's the official listing.  As secretive as CNS can be, such as listing Jonah Williams having a "twisted ankle" when he missed the week with a sprain, God only knows how bad his knee is.

Like I posted elsewhere, some of the Vegas oddsmakers took the game off the list due to Tua's knee.

Scott Van Pelt interviewed Tua on ESPiN tonight

it went something like this ....

SVP said " you haven't played in the 4th qt. this year
so if you get to the playoffs how will you handle it"

really ? Really ? REALLY ? SVP are you drunk ?
ESPiN's talent level is weak it seems ...

Tua handled it like a pro ...

but I thought of several answers to SVP  :lol2:

1)Scott ? did you see the Georgia overtime game where we won the NC ?
I was the QB ....

2) we'll be 30 points ahead so I'll be chillin' with my teammates
drinking Gator Aid and watching the 3rd string have some fun ...

3) Scott ? they pay you for this ? can you even spell "football" ?

It challenges us, but at the same time, we always go in with the mindset that we’ve got to play for 60 minutes every time. And really, it’s just up to the coaching staff to make that decision whether I’m going to be or not.”

  E-cred!!!!

I taped the interview.  Here's more:

SVP: You lead the nation in QB categories.  What is there to correct in practice?  LAUGHING

Tua: There's a lot of things I haven't done correctly.  Like, during the Mizzou game I missed on a wide-open guy crossing, held the ball too long, sacked, fumbled.  My eyes were focused on the safety.

Little things like that.

SVP: Stay well, stay blessed, and stay healthy.

-- No mention of a knee during the interview. --

At this point, if he does have a torn meniscus, unless it gets worse, he’ll play out the season.

More on interview.  Apparently Scott Van Pelt's interview of Tua was split into 2 parts; some aired after the Monday Night Game.

Tua Tagovailoa looked fine. He said last night on SportsCenter that he felt better coming off the Missouri game than Arkansas. The fact he was doing a rare interview seems to speak to his level of health entering the Tennessee game (2:30 p.m. CT Saturday). He fired passes with the amount of zip you'd expect. Nothing to suggest his status is any different for Saturday.

It looked like Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy were doing all the practice drills after being somewhat limited Monday.

So far, all good news.   #+

-- For the second consecutive day, Deonte Brown was seen working at left guard with the first team in place of Lester Cotton. Cotton, who has struggled this season and has been bothered by a mild ankle sprain since last week, looked on in the background. Cotton started the first seven games.

-- Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa looked fine. He continued to wear a brace on the right knee he sprained Oct. 6 in the victory over Arkansas.

I hope D Brown starts on Sat and does well.  To me, Cotton has been a weak link iln the OL for too long.

Cotton has been excellent as a run blocker; less against pass rush
But last few games it's been Pierschbacher who missed blocks.

Didn't we see a picture of him in a hospital bed?  Nothing but click bait trying to stir up trouble.

Jalen?  Yes.
They said it was a "minor procedure".   :dunno:

Tuesday before Miss State:

https://www.tidesports.com/alabama-football-practice-notes-11-6-2018/

Najee Harris (ankle sprain) was dressed but didn’t appear to be doing much.
Nick Saban said ...: “We’re hopeful that by Tuesday or Wednesday he’ll be able to come back and do some work. But right now he’s day-to-day.”

Henry Ruggs III (leg bruise) was dressed and appeared to be participating at full speed. Saban said ...: “We think Ruggs will be fine. Probably keep him out of practice today..."

DeVonta Smith (pulled hamstring) was dressed and participating as well, but might not have been at 100 percent.

Jalen Hurts was warming up with the quarterbacks and looked to be doing more than last week.

Yeah, it all sounds as best as possible.
The one worry is Jalen.  As we thought after his surgery, his injury was worse than originally described by Saban.
