Title: U of A Announces Major Changes for Sports facilities
Post by: Jamos on August 18, 2018, 06:39:08 AM
The U of A has announced a major overhaul for their sports facilities which has a lot of folks questioning what is ahead for the fanbase. It is a $600,000 ten year plan to basically improve most of the sports facilities. There will be major changes for Bryant Denny and Coleman Coliseum which will involve reduced seating for both facilities. This has a lot of fans questioning just how this will affect their season tickets in the future, especially in Bryant Denny.

I actually received an e-mail from Greg Byrne (as I'm sure millions more did too), spelling some of this out. I was also wondering what the implications would be.

Wow they are cutting down the number of fans cheering for the Tide? RTR!

I think they are widening the seats to accommodate the 10RC fans, thus lessoning capacity.

I think the improvements to Bryant Denny will be mostly premium seating and some very nice upgrades to common areas. I do not think the few thousand seats we lose will even be noticed. Tickets are much more available now than there were in years past. You can still get single game tickets to A&M, Mizzou, Miss St and non-conference games from the school. The A&M ticket is $110. They are not the best seats and some are in the visitors section due to visiting teams returning unsold tickets. The cost of going to a game is keeping some people away IMO. You spend another $100-$200 (2 people) for gas, parking, meals etc.

Coleman had an upgrade about 10 years ago that helped but the seating needs to be totally redone and that is what this upgrade is going to do. It will move the seats closer to the floor and make the tiers steeper keeping them from fanning so far out like they are now. I always thought we would reduce seating when we renovated or built new but I am surprised we are reducing to about 10K. I thought it would be 12K. Coleman rarely sells out in recent years but we rarely have less than 12K. Basketball will be a tough ticket if only 10K are available and the team continues to improve.
