Title: Perfect Way To Spend A Saturday In February
Post by: pmull on February 25, 2018, 09:44:50 AM
I had tickets to the Arkansas basketball game yesterday and with the game starting at 5:00 I thought we might could find a few other things to do before the game started.

I stopped to pick my Daughter up in Homewood. We decided to eat lunch before we left and went to Saw's BBQ in Homewood. If you have never been there you should try it. A hole in the wall place but the BBQ is great.

We got to Tuscaloosa about 12:45 and it was starting to rain. We went to the Bryant Museum. If you are like me, an Alabama fan who had never been there, you should go. It is well worth the two bucks admission. The Museum is dedicated to Bryant but it covers all eras of Alabama football. You will find displays, videos, etc to each Head Coach and their time at Alabama. Displays include pictures, uniforms, bowl trophies, SEC trophies, National Championship Trophies, bowl watches and many Championship rings. Other trophies include individual ones such as AJ's Maxwell Award, Barrett Jones Remington and Outland, Derrick Thomas Player of the Year Award and many others. It took about two hours to complete the tour.

We walked out of the Museum and the sun was out. We walked across the street and the baseball game had been delayed and was just starting. While standing in line to buy tickets a young man and his son walked up to me and asked if I wanted two tickets. Not being one to turn down free tickets I accepted his offer and thanked him. The tickets were good ones. Section KK right behind home plate. We missed the top half of the first but got seated in time to see Alabama come to bat in the bottom half of the first inning. We stayed until the top of the fourth when it looked like it might start raining and it was time to head to the Basketball game. The Joe is a beautiful college ball park and the team is playing well. We left with the score 4-1. Bama went on to win 9-3.

The basketball game was a lot of fun but the team did not play well and lost. Arkansas looked like a better team than us last night. Coleman was not full despite the box score showing a 15,383 sellout. I would estimate about 12,000 at the game. A good crowd but the team did not give us much to cheer about. It is always more fun to win but we had a good time anyway.

The basketball game was over about 7:00 and we headed straight to Nick's Filet House better known as Nick's In The Sticks. Nick's is a very small "joint" just outside of Tuscaloosa. It is well known for their steaks, reasonable prices, their specialty drink called the Nicodemus and long lines to get in. If you have never been to Nick's it needs to be on your bucket list.

What a day! I got home to Decatur about midnight. In my opinion that was a pretty good day.

Sounds like a great day, pmull. I hate that the bb team lost, but I know you enjoyed the Bryant museum and the baseball game. The Bryant Museum is worth going to see every time I go to T-Town. I love reading the old history about Bama football. Seems like I see something that I previously missed, every time I go.

I'll have to give Nick's a try, next time I go.

Nick's Original Filet House aka Nick's in the Sticks is nearly 80 years old and retains all its charm.  We went there pretty regularly when I was a student.

Don't know how an eatery escaped me during college.  Maybe because I didn't have a car that would safely drive 5 miles!  Maybe I didn't have money.   :dunno:
I'll have to check this pacle next trip to Tuscaloosa.
