Title: Special Times for us Bama Fans
Post by: carl childers on January 10, 2018, 01:55:33 PM
Many times you don't know something is special until looking back in hindsight days or weeks or years afterwards. Folks, everyone - not just us, but everyone who has an interest in sports - should recognize that we are experiencing the greatest run and dynasty in college football history. 5 national titles in 9 years is just stupid good - almost totally unbelievable in today's era of limited schollies and parity. The closest thing to it is 5 titles in 19 years (also Bama). What is amazing is it could be more - last year was 1 second from Bama having a three-peat this year. Unreal. The thing is, I don't think it's over. Two or three more titles could realistically happen before this run is over.

Enjoy it, my friends. When it's over - and again, it ain't over yet - we will look back in awe and marvel over what has been a wonderful reign in our sport. Roll Tide!

After this game, and the way Bama got into the CFP, I think some of the Bama fatigue may turn to Bama admiration.

I talked to a guy in New Jersey today and he said all that was being talked about on sports radio was Bama stuff.

I talked to a guy in New Jersey today and he said all that was being talked about on sports radio was Bama stuff.

Coming from SC to P'cola today, I listened to ESPNU radio nearly all the way, and that's pretty much all they talked about. Some of the callers were pretty amusing. The main topic was a question: "What sports figure came out of nowhere, that was as notable as Tua?"

Nobody could seem to match up to Tua, but one barner caller tried to make a case for Michael "Dye" for Auburn in the 2010 Natty. After he dismantled the booger eater, it dawned on him; "Hell, the player's name was Michael Dyer. He didn't even know his name!"

We are indeed the luckiest fans in all of American sports.

I think I did earn this happiness in some small way, though, as my student years in Tuscaloosa were during the Dubose, Franchione, Price, and Shula era.  I promise it didn't take me that long to graduate, the coaching carousel was just spinning quickly in those years.

Indeed, it is a wonderful time to be a Bama fan but let's not forget that this run could have included at least two additional NC's in 2008 and 2010 had things went our way on a few plays...

Add in that stupid kick6 in 2013 as well.   :yuck:

Bama has been very close to being national champions in 9 out of the past 9 years.   :o

Completely agree Carl. I've been listening to the sports talk here in Baltimore, and a number of the hosts prior to the game were hoping for Bama to lose, not necessarily out of spite but simply to have another team. On Tuesday, not one of the guys I listened to had a bad thing to say about the Tide, which is remarkable. They all expressed admiration for what the guys did during the playoffs. Only one d-bag thought it was a good idea to rip our 2018 schedule, but he was quickly shut down by another guy who happens to be a USCe fan. Boys, people may not like us everywhere, but, for the most part, they are RESPECTING us.

And I for one am enjoying this ride as long as it lasts.

No sympathy from me, HL.  My student days were spent watching Ears' teams.   :o

Nope.  I mean the original disaster.  How bad was Whitworth?  His 1955 team went 0-10 with Bart Starr at quarterback!

Guess that explains it.  No Heisman for Bart Starr.   ;)

Great article out of the "Tampa Bay Times":

http://www.tampabay.com/sports/college/Jones-The-secret-to-Alabama-s-success_164341768

Quote
Everything that is great about Alabama — its humility, its attention to detail, its work ethic, its bond to one another, its forgiveness of one another — was on full display Monday night in Bama’s amazing comeback to beat Georgia in the national championship game.

I agree these are indeed great times to be a Bama Fan. I was a student at Bama from 1960 to 1964.  During that time coach Bryant started this Championship run, Winning his first National Championship in 1961 and repeating in 1964 and 1965 while getting robbed in 1966, which may have been his is best team.  Being on campus when this all started was a memory I though could never be surpassed.  But alas, the current situation is at least equal to that memory.  Can't say one was better than the other, they are both special.
